Default speaker setup in the XFi?

Hey, gonna be doing some stereo mods soon, just wanted to clarify some things. It's too cold up here in Edmonton right now for me to be out taking the car apart, so I need some sage advice

Aparently my car has a 6-channel amp including 2 subs.... are they trying to say that the tweeters themselves are currently single channel and not crossed over with the front 6.5's? or are there more speakers hidden in this car that I can't find haha

Any advice on amp OEM amp wireing, placement, speaker sizes/locations, or any other general stock equipment info would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Cheers,
Tim Quinn

Thumbs up Re: speaker setup in teh XFi?

That would be called bi-amping. A dedicated channel going to the tweeter & woofer seperatly. But the crossovers are built inside the factory amp to allow the proper freq. to get to the driver for best performance.

But what do you want to do with the sound system?
What are your expectations?
What quality do you desire vs money are you willing to invest?
Are you willing to give up any space for the sound system?

Gives us more info so we can continue to further assist you.

There are at least 3 member in XF Forums that work and own car audio/video shops.

Regards,

PS. I post wiring info in a August post and Andrew I think posted the system scamatic.

Plans include.

-All Alpine system (my old car had one and I'm in love with alpines qualit of sound)
-1 300-500RMS amp powering 1 10 or 12" DVC woofer
-4ch amp powering front and rear speakers
maybe a few lil extras, possibly a dolby digital processor in the future, we'll have to see though :P

I havent had a chance to take apart the wall behind the seats to see what kinda of speakers are there or how much room is there. The sub encloser i will get will be fiberglass to use as little space as possible, and if it can actually be mounted within that wall behind the seats that would be pretty cool. But I can't say for sure where its all gonna be before i get the car apart to look at the space available.

Thanks for your help.

Tim

As you guys may have already noticed, "Bens" is a small specialty shop - as a result I can't carry every line out there. Alpine is excellent quality product but with the way it is distributed I can't justify the 'buy in' untill a point where I can move more product - particularly o.t.c. sales. Don't get me wrong - if a particular piece of electronics is right for a customer, even though I don't carry it, I'll still find a way to get it to him( I just might not make anything on it !) . Given that our niche is high end, 'non invasive' installation, often times we will use the factory head unit & interface it (using navone components) to aftermarket amplification, then upgrade the stock speaker locations with upscale (mb quart, alumipro, focal, etc.,) replacements, finishing up with a custom fitted sub enclsure and a welded steel or aluminum racking system to mount the components to factory fasteners already in the car. Taking this aproach you can upgrade the system to whatever level (or cost) you desire. We did an x-fire last month just upgrading the head unit to a pioneer avic-n1, but on mine I think we will keep the stock cd and route sattelite radio through the changer port. I'm leaning toward using mb quart amps and quart or alumipro front speakers. I may build a rear speaker location into the top 'shoulder' locations in a rear firing enclosure. For woofers it will be hard to sway me from a pair of kicker L 7 tens. as I get closer to a start date I'll finalize the design. I think it would be cool to do it over time as kind of a documentary and show pictures and explain procedures on the forum? Ben

Thanks again for teh replys. Heres a lil more detail to what I plan on adding.

IVA-D300 HU
MRV-F340 4ch. amp
MRD-M501 mono "D" with the control module
12 or 10" DVC Type-R sub (1241D or 1041D)
Type-R speakers all round, or type x if i can get the right sizes. (componant in front, coax in rear)
Possibly a Euro PXA-H701 (HU controllable doolby digital processor)
then all monster cable and wiring (good discount at work )

Of course do to the absolutely INSANE insurance rates here in Alberta for people under the age of 22 ($4500 a year) I will be adding these parts sloooowly one at a time haha.

Tim

P.S. Anyone know the REAEL OEM speaker sizes? ever place ive checked, includeing the database at work, is giving me different answers :P

Tim,

Just received the fax this morning.

Alpine type R speakers are being closed out. They will be replaced in 05 no specs with what yet but X type will stay current.

Look for close out sales in your area!!!
