Wanted: Factory Amp, Mine's blown
I jumped my car off the other night and I believe I blew the amp. Possibly the jumper cables cross connected. Smelled burning insulation in the cabin and now there is no sound from the speakers even though the radio still works.
I pulled the fuse and it was blown. Installed new fuse and it blew immediately. I am assuming the amp is toast.
If anyone is doing a stereo upgrade and has a factory amp to sell let me know. I am in the market. I saw quite a few on ebay for $250. I think that is a little high for a used amp. Found a new in box factory amp for $200. Surely there is a used amp out there for half of new prices. Contact me if you have something.

But what you MUST remember, is that any surge/spike or reverse polarity application of power can impregnate electronics with impending failures.
If the car develops an odd electrical issue in the next - whatever, keep in mind what happened. The car is now capable of doing ODD stuff, so when you get a "no crank", and everyone tells you it's the RCM - keep in mind that fixing the RCM may not get the car running. ALWAYS remember that there is a history with the car that damaged the audio amp, and that a lot of other modules were subject to the same.
I am speaking as a life-long electronics technician that did bench work all the way back to 1982.
I have been doing bench work on electronics since about 1994 and I have to say this has made me laugh harder than most of the jokes I have heard in years. Glad to see someone still has a since of humor.
You are very fortunate that the car is running at all.

My mistake. I thought I saw this under new posts or daily posts and saw the month and day but not the year. I use the screen reader on my phone and swipe right until I get to the message so I never heard or saw the year and since there were no replies I assumed it was a new post. Anyway, if someone is currently looking for an amplifier The information could be useful.
