Hard to tell by the picture, but it looks like ground wire.

Normally, there are 2 heavy duty ground wires from any engine to the frame.
These serve the purpose of completing the circuit from the battery positive terminal, through all the components ( including the amp-happy starter ) back to the negative battery terminal.
Without these, the engine would be isolated and worthless.

I would think if the wire itself isn't broken, then it is fine for electrical continuity. If your concerned about any exposed bare wire through the insulation, wrap it in a good rubber electrical wrap (like electrical tape but heavier, made to 'blend' into itself like a rubber coating). Unless it has 'chaffed' into other signal/voltage carrying wires, your quite OK to just wrap it. I would think taking it all apart (the harness) to replace it, would be extremely hard. It also would probably not look like it does now, seeing as it (the entire harness) has aged in its position. Like when you unpack a box with a lot of parts, then try to put it all back in the box the way it came, never goes right.

Rereading your post, are you trying to get rid of it? It is there for a reason, I would leave it alone.

On the SRT that cable goes to a stud on the rear of the AC compressor..

Fix what? It doesn't look broken in the picture you posted. Is it cut, is it 'open'? Is it just insulation off the wire? Fix it is fine, this involves covering it if insulation is missing, splice if broken OR a complete opening of the harness and pulling it out to its other end. How deep do you want to delve into it is entirely up to you. Good luck with whatever is wrong with it. So far, I am not sure exactly what is wrong with that ground since the picture isn't clear enough and so far your explanation is vague.

If it is the cable I can se on my car, it goes from the frame to the stud on the AC compressor, a earthing wire. It is about a foot long I guess.

onehundred80 thank you. I check this on my car. Probably I must remove down engine cover.

onehundred80 you have right, this wire goes from the frame to the stud on the AC compressor.
Problem fixed, thanks.

Thanks for the update. I was working on a power steering leak and noticed that wire wasn't attached to anything. Couldn't figure out where it went.
