Default AC not working and outside temperature sensor acting up

Parked my 2005 limited for a few weeks and came home to some electrical (?) gremlins. Turned on the car and noticed external temperature read -36F and the AC wouldn’t come on. Checked all fuses and replaced outside temperature sensor (recently replaced one on another newer vehicle, figured it was overdue). Took it for a spin, expecting temperature to reset within a few minutes, no such luck.
Disconnected battery and let it sit for 20 minutes. Temperature still reading -36 F and AC still not working. Suggestions?

Look at section 24 in the service manual. The ambient temp sensor is covered there. It is basically two wires from the sensor to the instrument panel and two wires from the instrument panel to the A/C control module. You must have a broken connector/wire or a short in those wires. If it isn't that then the A/C controller is bad or you have a bad temp sensor. Look at the service manual for details.

Thanks, but I can’t figure out how the wiring is routed from the sensor. Any figures/illustration would be welcome.

As far as I know, there is no routing info in the service manuals, but here is the schematic :

George, Thank you for posting the wiring diagram! You make it seem so easy; yet I must take pictures, send emails to myself and save that to a file then finally download.
The info is available to anyone who cares to download the service manual from the documents thread.
See you down the road

1. In the pdf, I click edit / take a snapshot ( that puts it in the buffer )
2. back to thread and press the picture button ( the one to the right of the smiley face )
3. press control/v, then post it.

I know this is an older thread but I am having similar issues. My outside temp is stuck at -36 F.. My EBS and ABS lights are flashing. Engine temp gauge not working, Drive and Park are flashing greyed out. I have tried disconnecting battery for extended period, then put in a new battery , no change. Replaced RCM. Seems to run normally. Did a little more investigating. My OBD2 can read wheel sensor speeds and all 4 are working. The temp gauge actually does word , but it goes in and out like the rpm gauge and the ESP BAS , drive indicator , TPMS and others. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Error code P0600

Hi Magg55. You seem to have a CAN Bus problem. A lack of communications between several sensors and the PTCM (Power Train Control Module).
There are numerous tests to be conducted to determine exactly where the error might be. I would start at the PTCM connectors and simple carefully disconnect, clean with deoxIT D5 and
reconnect. If that doesn't help then I would start testing as per the service manual at P0600 No Cluster Bus Message at section 9 page 529. Someone with a lot more electrical troubleshooting
experience would have to take it from there as most of it is beyond my abilities. I hope you can find the help you need. Good Luck!

There are also a couple splices S117 and S116 that are common to the sensors you are having trouble with. Go to page *W-18-5 of the service Manual. It shows the CAN Bus and the common links to the sensors you are having trouble with and the splices.

PS I was thinking you best check your grounds also. First place to start is the stud with the brown wires attached located under the fill spout for the windshield cleaning solution. I think you should start a new thread with this problem as you will probably get better response than just mine.

Hi Maggy55, do you know if you have a rodent problem? Besides the excellent advice zip439 gave, I can only think of a rodent issue. Good luck!
