I figured the thicker/stiffer membrane, although stronger might hinder frequency response...not that it would be a noticeable to the ear anyway.

I found them on eBay. I don't have time to search for them now, but I think you'll find them.

It is difficult to tell from your photos, but I think that your installation looks OK. If you think that you can match the silver paint, I would recommend painting the cover.

Yes, photos are not the best.
Silver carbon foil little curl up/destroy around screws and usb ports.
If I put smartphone to holder is no problem becouse most is curtained/covered but in future I want correct it.

These instructions are so outdated? I use the Metra harness. My headunit powers up and everything but no sound. Is the remote control wire for the Amp power on, on the Metra harness? I'm using the rca outputs.

Does the Metra harness uses the wrong color matching wires as well?

The metra harness has the wire color matched properly.

Everybody says to reverse the yellow and red wire but when I do that my headunit does not power on anymore.

Do I need to wire the small gauge speaker wire as well even when I plug in the rca wires?

Sorry for the dumb questions but I really need help

Just thought I'd add this after not being able to find a wiring diagram for the factory stereo . I put in an older Pioneer stereo without anything to do with a cell phone ,,,,old school !
There are 11 wires coming out of the original Infinity stereo (without navigation} Below are the wires as I diagnosed !!!!
First and foremost ,,,, make sure you have good lighting as the colors are hard to distinguish !!! The car is an 04 Crossfire .

(bigger wire) Red/Green stripe : Constant Hot
(bigger wire) Light Pink?/Yellow stripe and green circles : Ignition switched Hot
(bigger wire) Brown : Ground
Blue/Brown stripe Left speaker Pos.
Blue : Left speaker neg.
Yellow : Right speaker Pos.
Yellow/violet stripe : Right speaker Neg
Blue/Green stripe : to amplifier

The following wires were not needed for my stereo and are probably used for phones or data of some kind !!! If anyone knows what they are please add it !!!
Green/White stripe
Gray/Yellow stripe
Gray/Blue stripe

There are only 2 channels Left and Right
The battery check to distinguish which speakers are which won't work because of the amp !!!

For those that have installed an aftermarket single DIN unit in the Crossfire, was wondering if you secured the new sleeve for the stereo unit by bending a few tabs (which is typical) or did you follow the recommendation of the attached website I found, which says to use a 1/2" long self-tapping screw thru the sleeve's top.

I have single din Kenwoods in all three of mine and I just used bent tabs. All three are quite secure.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm going to do this sometime this month. Have new receiver & all the wiring needed to make the install relatively easy. The Metra wiring harness I have isn't the one listed on that website. I've actually got the one for the Crossfire (not VW) and wire colors all match. Came with RCA connections to keep the OEM amplifier in the mix. (Note: New receiver has RCA connections for the speakers.)

There is a thread on how to install a Kenwood single DIN radio, I followed the instructions and it worked. It is listed in my signature link that Is in red letters. Look in the radio section.

And as I said previously, things have moved on since then. Kenwood now supply a direct fit loom for the Xfire to the new Kenwood head unit. I had to change the large amount of nothing. Plug it in and that was it.
