Default Good News, Bad News, Winter Wheels Installed

Today I had winter Blizzak Run Flats installed on the Crossfire. That's the good news, the bad news is; the aftermarket sensors that I talked about in another thread, didn't work. These same sensors are made by the same manufacturer that makes the OEM sensors, so go figure. When ordering, care was taken to match the same part number and model year and was told they were an identical match to OEM. The boys at my local Chrysler dealership did everything possible, but their scan tool couldn't get them to link up to the ECU.

I talked to my parts guy again, and the OEM sensors are still back-ordered. So I'm not sure what Crossfire owners are expected to do when the time comes to replace the TPMS sensors. So I'll be driving around for the next few months with the little "low pressure" lamp on, which is no big deal, just a little annoying. The good news is; when I mount my summer wheels back on in the Spring, I won't have to re-set the TPMS sensors.

Tony, there is always some positive light at the end of the tunnel. I would be more concerned about driving my Xfire in the winter time than seeing that sensor light on the instrument panel................but, I'm sleeping with my Xfire in Arizona right now, so that is easy for me to say!

Just do what I do every winter, cover it with a piece of black tape and it won't annoy you.

Dam electronics. Don't you just love how something so simple in theory can be such a pain in the a$$. If only they would only make one design per car company. That way it would be easy to find and replace with no worried if they will work or not.

That's exactly what I did. Black Electrical Tape, cut in a tidy circle, blends right in on the instrument panel...
I'm just out $300 on replacement sensors...

I was wondering how you got the part number 5142340-AA for the sensor.
Schrader lists two part numbers for the 2005 Crossfire, another is 52088990-AC. The Crossfire manual says that they are activated with a magnet. I do not think 5142340-AA is set with a magnet.
Schrader list all other years as using 52088990-AC - activated with a magnet.
I think the correct Schrader part number is 20028 and not 20066.

That may be true, but Schrader's own chart suggests otherwise and I assumed it was correct. I phoned and talked to a sales technician who also confirmed the part number, which in the end is what I ordered.
I emailed Schrader back and told them that their recommended part number does not work on my '05.
Check out their application chart and you will see that the part number recommended for '05 is indeed 20026.

Thats not the chart that I used, the chart I used lists two sensors, one of them is the one you list and the other is the one used on all other Crossfire model years. This is the official Schrader site.
Schrader USA - TPMS OEM part locator
Did some of these (#5142340-AA) sensors get used on the Crossfire? I doubt it as the receiver would have to be changed as well, but who knows.
Further research has shown that the sensors were made by Schrader in '04 and '05 and by Siemens/VDO in '06 '07 and '08. These sensors require a different service kit but are activated the same way, with a magnet.
Schrader and Siemens/VDO are mentioning a universal sensor that can be programed to replace 90% of the 120 odd sensor variations currently used. We can only hope that the Crossfire application is among them.

So how's the ride with those run flats? Chrysler doesn't recommend them because they said the ride is rough.

[QUOTEThats not the chart that I used][/quote]

Interesting...I did see that chart earlier, but had no choice but to go with the recommended part number by the supplier. It would be nice to hear from someone else who has successfully used aftermarket sensors for their '05 Crossfire. The fact that they are still back-ordered (three of the OEM sensors are now in stock at my dealership with my name on them, and they are waiting for the fourth) and arrive at the dealership at approximately one-a-month, it would be in everyone's best interest to know what other sensors will work. It's this kind of thing that reminds us that we are driving an orphaned make/model car that in time, will just go ignored by Chrysler for support. In fact, I think its already started......

I would not buy this part from the dealer, they buy it from Schrader or Siemens etc. for much less than you can buy it for. Put it in a bag with their name and part number on and sell it to you for for twice what you can buy the same part from over the counter at your local auto parts supplier. It may have the Chrysler part number on the part itself even but it is still the same part.
Go to the dealer and see if you can spot the Schrader part number on it and save yourself some money.
One site has Schrader listed as the supplier for '04 and '05s, with Siemens/VDO the supplier for the other years. They use different service packs but I assume that they are interchangeable.
The part you have is listed as being the part for my 2007 Chrysler 300, it is not the part listed for the '09 Chrysler 300.

Dave, I just went out to the garage to check the part # on the "spare" tire pressure sensor I picked-up on E-Bay. I haven't pulled it out of the MOPAR packaging, but I can see it is a Schrader Bridgeport and made in the UK. Clearly the Part # on the packaging is 05142340AA which by your reckoning is not of any use to me. Thought I had a good deal because I paid $16.48 for it with shipping.........maybe not such a good deal after all. Just to add a little more confusion, the 2006 Parts Manual lists the Tire Pressure Sensor part # as 05096808AA.

I was about to ask you what the number really was as you had put down #05134930-AA and that rang no bells at all. I went through pages of past posts about the TPMS topic and yours was the only one that had a number, I was excited until I saw the number. Now you say its a number that appears to be no good on these cars as well. As I mentioned earlier that appears to be the number used on my 300, I have eight of them already. I too also looked at the 2006 part numbers and that number never matched anything I could find.
My best bet is on #52088990-AC being the correct sensor, this sensor appears to come with two Service Packs, one for a Schrader insert and one for a Siemens/VDO sensor.
Confusing or what?

OK looks like part# 5142340AA is for '05's and 5096808AA is for all other years:

Good to see these are coming up on eBay! I'm not impressed with the price however. If you add the shipping cost the seller is asking, the duty and taxes, you are paying more then what I just paid at the Chrysler dealership two weeks ago. I did have to wait five months though for my order.............!

BTW, the dealership charged me $145/ea for the sensors with a discount due to the time I had to wait.

I think that sums it up nicely.
The Schrader numbers would be, for the 04, 06, 07 and 08's #20028 and for the '05 year #20066.
Schrader lists the 20028 for 05 as well so maybe there is possibly the two were used, tough to change just like that on the assembly line.
Schrader lists the 20066 for use on my 300 (3.5L)and gives a OEM part number (68111698AA) that differs from the part number installed in my 300 (68001696AA). Confusing.
The list price for the 300 sensors was $67.70 and I paid $45.48, my wife worked there. Thats a big jump to $126.90 on ebay if it turns out they are the same part. I will not even mention the $156.60 price.
Going by the numbers on the Schrader site, if you order a sensor for a year 2007 Chrysler 300, you should get a part that costs Can.$67.70 (list) and fits into a 2005 Crossfire. Ordering the part for a Concorde or 300M should get you a part that fits the other Crossfire years. I smell a rip off.

Schrader has come out with a sensor, called EZ Sensor, that replaces 90% of existing sensors, it is programed to suit the car, it appears to be red in color rather than black. The price each in the US is around $80 each.
Fortunately for us it replaces the two models of sensor used on the Crossfire.

That's too much trouble, do what my friends wife did, she put black tape over the CE light because she said it bugged her when driving at night.
