Tire Questions
Have a screw in the rear passenger tire right at the edge of the tread and sidewall. The head of the screw sticks out about 1/4 inch and it enters straight down in and slightly toward the center. I took it to a Tire store and they said they could not fix it; I would need a new tire. Would it be possible to patch the tire from the inside? Or are they just trying to sell a tire. I checked Tire Rack on line and they have the Conti Touring Contact 255/35 92/W CW95 for $165. I read in the Tire section of this forum about the sensor and have a picture or diagram that was posted. Can I trust one of the recommended installers to mount it properly and not screw up the sensor? Further, are the balancing weights mounted on the inside of the rim? Also, I paid $185 for an upgrade from standard equipment when the car was new (limited roadster '05) to Conti ASP's according to the window sticker. Did I get the right set of tires that were listed above or did I get the standard tires? The Touring Contacts I have also say EcoPlus on the sidewall? Appreciate any and all feedback, xrtime
there is no way anyone will patch a tire with a puncture near the side wall... a big liability & risk (not recommended)... a new tire is in your future.
just be sure to tell the tire installation company (when dis-mounting) the car has a tpm (tire pressure monitor) on the backside of the valve stem.
the weights are stick-ons on the inside of the rim.
you can't go wrong with the tire rack.
you paid $185 for the "all-season" tires... you received the correct ones.

Thanks for the quick reply. WILL DO!! Just out of curiosity, what are the standard tires (w/o the upgrade) and what are the Conti sport contact 2's that I have read alot about on various posts? xrtime

Andrew, I know I'm in the wrong post but just bought my crossfire and I was wondering which springs you used to lower your car? I am thinking of lowering mine and tinting the windows. Yours looks perfectly lowered. Thanks.

I've got the same tires and have had no problems. Paid the additional $185.00 for the all season Conti's. It was a good idea since I live in North East Ohio. Very quiet and a nice smooooth ride. The Tire Rack had these tires on closeout for ~$130.00 each. Get in touch with them and see if they can give you that deal. I've also seen a pair of 18" offered on eBay at $200.00 buy it now price.
Have the best mount and balance. I've heard about problems with the painted rims getting gouged and scratched up.
Sorry to hear that you got screwed in the side wall. That no spare tire thing can be a bummer.
Good luck!

Repeating that same logic by adding more options that allow a higher sticker and cost less would result in a fully optioned out car that actually cost them less to manufacture than a base model...a great business model...if you can stay in business doing that...
