Default Do you ever feel cheap with your crossfire?

I saw a black Crossfire at Walmart and as he passed through I can hear his loud rap music and as he stopped by his friends, they were just loud and was blocking the lane! Then he showed off by speeding off...in the parking lot!

With the low price of Crossfires now, I think I loss the sense of pride with SOME of these new and younger owners (I'm 36) that I feel cheap being a crossfire owner! I'd rather prefer seeing older owners of crossfires even if they have the disabled plate. At least they drive their car responsibly and with respect!

Some drivers just need to drive with pride in their crossfires and not driving it like an old cadillac with cheap boombox inside! It's just too cheap for me!

I'm just so glad that most aftermarkets for our crossfires are not cheap and I hope it'll stay that way.

I kind of agree. When the MSRP was in the $34,000 range for the coupe, it put the car out of reach of a lot of people. I liked the idea of having a unique car everyone couldn't afford. With prices dropping fast, the boy racers can now more easily afford one. The lack of affordable tuner parts and the expense of maintaining the Crossfire may deter most of them.

I shudder everytime I think of a Crossfire all riced out with big wings, paste on body parts and decals everywhere.

I think it's the ATTITUDE of SOME of the new owner's has changed due to the price drop!

Before when the 2004 Crossfire was first launched, their target household income was $150k annually. Now, even high school and college students can afford it just working in McDonald's!

We can't blame them 'cause maybe it's their first time to own a 35k brand new Limited Chrysler / Mercedes car priced same as a Honda Civic!

But DC's gotta sell all of them in the lot no matter what!

You know Cyril, I see where your coming from. But I've got to tell ya, I never feel "cheap" whenever I'm driving either one of my Civics. And I don't care if I see Crossfires with Pizza delivery signs stuck on their roof's. It isn't going to change the way I feel whenever I'm driving in my Crossfire.
The only person my car needs to impress, is me.

I told my daughter a while back... you can drive a Mercedes and not take care of it and its NOT a cool car anymore. You can drive your Suzuki and keep it nice, take pride in it and its still a nice car. I've never felt cheap. I have scratched my head a few times at some of the way people keep there cars. There is a silver Crossfire running around Rockville and its plain trashed. I just don't get it. I plan on keeping mine, my pride level in the car is still really high. Mike's right.

Around here i noticed alot of high school kids driving 350z's, BMW's, Lexus. I bought my son a '99 Mustang his friend pulls up with a brand new Acura, my son tells me it was $32,000.
So if you feel cheap maybe BMW, Lexus, Acura drivers should also feel cheap.
I also drive a Chrysler 300 I never feel cheap. All i feel is great when I'm driving and people are checking out the cars, or parked and people come up to me and ask questions and tell me how nice the car is.

Ok i gotta say your attitude is very offensive to someone my age... first, this car is nowhere near attractive to the "boy racer" type that you say are purchasing the car; it neither has the power or popular culture appeal... second, i take offense to your ragging on young owners, i modified a '98 RT for 4 years and sold it for 3 times market value, then purchased a clean title crashed PT GT Cruiser which i repaired and sold for 3k profit, and then purchased my Crossfire at deep discount cause i searched for the lowest price in the country and specifically for a base model + the money i made on my past cars... I don't know, but as far as i am concerned i worked my *** off on all my previous cars to get to where i am so it seems only fair that i'd be given the same respect as a 30 something driver. And its not just from owners like yourself that i see this disrespect, the dealer techs are just as bad. I can't drive into a dealership service department without getting glares. So i am forced to go to a Dodge dealer where they know what was under the hood of my RT and they know what i am capable of.

As for people working at McD's and buying these... Not a chance, financing even a 20k car for 5 years turns out to a $350 - $400 dollar payment per month for a young buyer... Add the fact you need full insurance... it becomes very much not affordable quickly to McD's employees.

So god forbid these young drivers where simply smart enough to get the car on their own by working their *** off... And they don't work at McDonalds... I'm a Networking Technician and am working on my Bachelors in MIS while i work full time... its a different world out there now a days, you can't sit on your behind waiting for things to be handed to you like people did in the past... too much competition around ya...

I like that mentality that is why i am addicted to waxing my cars... my '98 had better paint (even though some ******* keyed it) than most of the two year old cars in this area...

intenseblu, only thing is now it's not $350 + insurance for a lot of people. with the new employee leases they're super cheap. for example my limited is 242 a month and that includes insurance. a kid at mcdonalds could easily afford that if their mom or dad works at chrysler.

It was not the car that made me feel cheap but the attitude of SOME drivers making the car look cheap as it relates to me.

I always mention SOME drivers...and as far as this forum goes, I'm happy that most of us here are proud owners!

No never do I let the stupidity of others change my thoughts! I just retired from the US Army after 25 years and bought an '04 white XF for the sheer beauty of the cars lines! I had a 55 year old walk up to the car and say it was so unique and sexy that he has to buy one! So don't let anyone influence your feelings about what you liked in the car. If I learned anything as a soldier it was to always stick to your guns!

I fell like the well to do fella I am!! Maybe because I have the only SRT-6 Crossfire Roadster in a city of 250,000. I get a lot of stares and compliments. It's a $50k car, right?
P.S. I paid far less than that, brand new. Got the steal of the century actually.

Follow up - Just got back from a trip to home depot and I park miles away. As I was coming out a guy in a perfect looking Beamer Z-3 conv pulls up next to me. He gets out and starts raving about the Crossfire, man its beautiful that's what I want he says. His car wasn't a slouch either, all wood grain interior and in perfect shape. I told him if he wants a Crossfire he better hurry up. No I don't feel cheap.

Not being much older than you, I'm not offended at all. Of course, if you're on this board you're probably not the kind of owner Cyril was talking about. You're story says you're not either.

On a related note, the thought has occurred to me that with the falling prices a "less desirable" crowd could end up owning Crossfires. I won't let it bother me though. My wife has problems with Caddies simply because of the type of people that tend to buy old busted ones. Myself? I still like the XLR and even the older STS's. I don't care who else drives it. Mine will look better.

PS: I'm in IT too, are you a Cisco guy or something else?

i am DEEPLY bothered by this post. i'm a 26 yr. old blk male and i own a '05 xfire. i joined this forum to learn more and to connect with other xfire owners. i play my rap music loud and yes i speed from time to time, but that's just me being me. i work hard for what i want and if i did work at McD's, it's my choice to own a xfire or not. xfires are not just for older WHITE retired males. if you like them and can afford them you can buy them. so if you feel cheap b/c you see a younger person in a xfire playing loud RAP music, oh well, get use to it. maybe you should trade your car and get something else.

ok well i'm 21, and don't drive like a little racer boy. i may have got a deep discount, but to my benefit b/c this is the cheapest car i've ever driven. not to take away from the quality of the car. at 21 and held the same job for 8 years and graduated from Purdue. i do not think it is fair for you to make the comments as a stereotype for younger drivers. just my .02

you are an old ignorant man is really all i have to say. i'm 19 and agree with intenseblu, i find your comments offensive, why you ask? because i'm 19, and this is my first car financed, I have 2 motorcycles, and an 11 seconds trans am (also intend on selling the xfire and purchasing an elise or exige in about a year). i purchased them all, with my own earned money, i do have a very good paying job, and graduated '05.

p.s. it is nowhere near that cheap to purchase an xfire, and insure it with full coverage for someone under 25, try along the lines of $700 or so a month...so before you insult younger successful people, you yourself need to grow up.

It's one of the biggest deal out there for the Crossfire!

We can't blame that some of the owners felt disheartening with the low giveaway prices now for brand new Crossfire leftovers.

When it was launched in late 2003, they bought their Crossfires for 35k and more thinking that what they are paying at that price is for the prestige and luxury of owning a concept European made car. It was supposed to be that way until DC figured out that they are not making any sales on the crossfires.

Those that paid 35k or more felt betrayed by DC when DC starts selling it low. If those original crossfire buyers only bought theirs for the price of what we have now, I think there won't be any hard feelings of betrayal that these cars will be sold also to a different economic group of buyers.

I think that bringing the price down too fast for just 2 years ain't fair for those that paid more than 30k for the crossfire. Because what they are seeing is not what they expected for the crossfire to happen in the hands of some of the new owners.

If a brand new Porsche Boxster is sold for 20k and seen slapped with all those ricer stuff...I think it'll hurt the feelings also to those that bought theirs MSRP.

If I have known this is the fate of the Crossfire when I bought mine in 2004, I should have just bought an SRT-6 or a Lotus Elise which is a more legit exotic than the crossfire for 10 more grand. I thought that the crossfire can get me up higher in the social level where I can now afford. A 350k house and a crossfire was a good match then when I bought it!

But I love my Crossfire and nothing can change that feeling since when I first saw it. Those that don't wash their crossfires will just drool how mine still looks good after 2 years of owning!

P.S. If you fit on the description what Cyril stated then your ATTITUDE made the crossfire cheap!

It's not all about the rap music...it's the blocking of the lane and showing off by speeding off in a Walmart parking lot! If you're walking out there and sees this kind of ATTITUDE, I bet you'll feel the same!

Please don't use the race card on this too. It's never a good defense using the race card the fact that Cyril is a successful Asian-American by the way! ( if you look at his cardomain pics).
