CarMax Purchase??
Hey everyone--
I just wanted to ask if anyone out their purchased their Crossfire at a CarMax store?
And if they did, was their experience good or bad??
I am planning on purchasing a XF somtime next summer and would like to purchase one from them instead of an individual.
I trust their inspection policy.
Thanks for eveyone's input!

I got mine from them as well. I was very pleased with the experience. They gave me a very fair price on the car, they were very open an honest about the whole buying procedure. I'd buy another car from them when the time comes.
I look at a 2004 CF coupe at CARMAX in Houston that had 28,000 miles and was a great shape. CARMAX was asking $23,600. I offered them $22,500 cash but they wouldn't take it.
The next week I found an identical CF but with 22,000 miles at a well established internet dealer in Dallas. Made a deal over the phone on Wednesday, had CARCHEX inspect the car on Thursday ($120), and flew to Dallas on Friday to pick it up ($110).
I like car shopping (the entire research and haggling process). CARMAX is easy, quick and relatively painless, but they are certainly not the best deal around.

i bought my crossfire new in feb '04 at carmax in orlando. at that time, carmax had the lowest prices on new crossfires that i could find. the no-haggle concept made the whole transaction easy. the salesman even picked me up at the airport since i was not local. carmax provides some great discounts on new cars as a strategy to bring people in, many of whom eventually buy their used cars which is where most of their profits are made. my general feeling is that carmax used car prices are slightly more than some other used car dealers. however, they do seem to be honest, have high quality inventory, and aren't at all pushy. so if you find a crossfire at carmax, and the price is reasonable, you will probably be very pleased.
I purchased mine there... and was VERY pleased with the experience. It was the fastest i have ever been able to buy a car.
Interestingly enough the car crapped out 3 months later with engine problems and i approached CarMax with the problem. This was something that the inspection they do was not able to identify up front, but they were still willing to help me any way they could.
I will always recommend CarMax, as it allowed me to test and sit in several other brands of cars all at the same lot. The selection was awesome, and all the cars seemed to be good quality.

i bought my crossfire in march from carmax. they had me in and out in about an hour. i was very pleased and they gave me a HELLEVA deal. $21,599 for a 04' crossfire with 3,144 miles on it. i will always get my cars from carmax b/c of the they way they treated me.

What was the engine problem on your Crossfire?
And did carmax cover the problem our did you have to put any money out of pocket on the repair?
Overall, it sounds like everyone recommends CarMax.
The problem was a top end ticking noise that developed after purchase at Carmax. I did not choose to purchase any extended warrantees as the factory warrantee was still active. It didn't cost me anything to have it fixed, just didn't have a car to drive for 60 days, in which case carmax was willing to rent me one just because i was upset about the whole thing. They really didn't have to do it, and i didn't really need a rental... so... I just thought it was a nice gesture.
The service guy at Carmax did call Chrysler on my behalf... another gesture i thought was nice... but it didn't help the situation anymore than usual. He did tell me tho, that Carmax would not have worked on the car anyway (in the case of any extended warrantees) they just take it to Chrysler and go from there.

I think with things as they stand today, Albert is right. There are better deals out there than what you'll find at CarMax. HOWEVER, there's a Carmax in walking distance from home, and I am a constant "auto voyeur" on their lot, and they'll let me drive anything anytime I want. The service at this dealer is first rate, I helped both my dad and brother pick up cars there and the experience was first rate both times.
If your goal is low cost, there are better routes to go, but if you are interested in the extended warranties and service, you'll be doing ok with CarMax.

Thanks for the input Senna...
Next summer I hope to find a nice 2005 XF and would like to purchase an extended warranty to cover things because the factory warranty will expire in a year.
I did some calling around and found a 2005 XF with 26k on it and the dealer quoted me $1,700.00 for an extended warranty.
Has anyone else found a better price on a ex-warranty?

Matty,
No worries, FYI...I just bought mine last week from a Jeep Dealer, it was a program car with 2,600 miles on it, paid 23K. Nav, autostick and they offered me the extended for about the same price you quoted. I did not take it. I'll figure out what to do when I get to that point.

Ebay you do get a better deal. BUT, from carmax you get a great car. Ebay is a very different story. Carmax doesn't sell crap cars and has a lot of great things. I would rather spend a little more and get a solid, dependable car.
