Default Oil Change, Smells like Gas?

All-

I just changed the oil & filter in my XF tonight from the 10w30 that the deal put in when I got it and it smelled a lot like gas.

Is this normal?

Or does thins mean that the dealers thicker 10w oil has caused a gasket somewhere to leak/blow allowing gas into the oil?

Thanks

More than likely it is from blow-by, which is when some of the air/fuel mixture or combustion gasses leak past the piston rings on the compression or power stroke. If you're sure the dealer put in 10w30 you should go back and raise he|| because that is clearly outside of the recommended viscosity listed for that car. Make sure that the fact gets recorded in the car's maintenance history so you'll have documentation for any future warranty claims.
