Default Cup Holder Alternatives... =-)

I know this might seem pretty ridiculous to have its own thread, but, I am sick of the oem cup holder. It is completely pointless, mine broke about the second time I used it and everytime I move my elbow it pops it open. Plus even if it Did work it would only fit like an 8 oz cup of water. I bought a cup holder that you wedge between the passenger seat and center console and it seems pretty sturdy but its only holds large cup well, smaller cups tend to slide around and tip over. Any suggestion?

Buy a mini van. JK.
The XF is based on the SLK. Europeans are not big on cup holders. Check e-bay; they have some cup holder that will work. I use my OEM cup holder every day for my coffee without issues. I've found that if you use the stainless steel type of mugs (about 12 - 14 oz.) they stay in place.

Sir this is a driving car, it's not used for eating inside of. The fact that they put a stupid cup holder in the car is ridiculous, kinda like putting a radio with speakers on a Honda Goldwing.

I totally agree with FP. I use my cup holder daily with no trouble at all. I use a smaller stainless cup that has a lid, and it even keeps the coffee in while doing .09 G corners!

No drips, no runs, no spills!

The base model has no cup holder, so on this trip (we're in Va, headed to NC, from Buffalo, NY), we bought a holder at Pep Boys with a long rubber ribbon and a thickened section at its end-my wife decided to hang it in the glove box because it wouldn't fit in the window slot-has worked fine, no problems with juice bottles and her coffee cub. Base really means BASE.

I removed the cup holder in my '04 and replaced it with the storage bin while the car was in storage this winter. Since I didn't use the cup holder the bin should be a plus. When we traveled we take along a couple of stainless steel travel cups that seal and when they are empty we store them behind the seats. However you do have to hold them while they are full so we only use them for morning coffee.

Hey Rakoom where did you end up getting your XF? I know your in P-town. I'm down in Salem. I want a srt6 roadster but as you know there's nothing around here. The one on ebay right now is all black but is 34k.

I use mine every day to get my wawa coffee cup to work.
It is not used "as a cup holder" but it is good for transporting it to work.

Was thinking the same exact thing. But wonder how much a MB crazy straw costs?

Also agree with Stryfox. Its definitely no good to be taking cups in and out of the holder. I usually leave my coffee in it for the ride to work then take it out. But no way it can successfully hold a soda can without mashing it. Also when i go to Taco Bell, and I get a large i have to use 2 hands to put it in the holder, then i usually just lean over and take a sip from the straw. But it usually takes 2 hands to put anything thing in there. I use my left hand to open the front 2 fingers, and push the cup in. The angle the front 2 pieces move its not good at all. They just move out, so if your pushing your cup in straight down, no way they will open up and facilitate the cup.

OK, for those of you who put a great deal of importance on the cup holder; here's one option.
