Just bought my first-ever $3 gallon.
Oh c'mon you mean last year you didn't pay $3 a gal??
I think we paid almost as high as $3.50 a gal here in southeast FL. Right now we are sitting at $2.89 - $3.09 for regular much less premium which i think is $3.16 - $3.29.
I just don't look anymore!

I just filled up on $3.09. But last year the lowest grade was almost $4.00 here in Baltimore. My friend and I were in line to get gas at the cheapest place in town, and they changed the price up $.50 but we got it for the old price.
Must not live in So. Cal. Been payin' over $3 for a year now. Just filled up for $3.64.
Well by the end of the month 85 octane will be at $3.00 a gallon; last week it was $2.79 and today it went to $2.89. Premium has bee over $3.00 a gallon for over a month; one reason along with the weather I haven't been in a rush to take it out of storage yet. Two months ago I spent $3.20 a gallon for regular in San Jose filling up the rental car.
It's not just the oil monkey; our Govt is financing the war in Iraq and Afghanistan by floating bonds. Who can come up with the $$billions$$ it takes to pay for the war every financial quarter? And this is on top of the never ending pork spending of our politicians!
Answer:
China
Saudi Arabia
The Oil Companies
Look at the sick profits they show on their financial records.
Think about it, the oil companies get you to open your wallet at the pump to increase their profits, they then take those profits (that cost them nothing but to hype the price of oil and gas) and lend it to the Government for 4.5%. We will someday have to open our wallets AGAIN to pay back those bonds.
WHAT A SCAM!
We are a debtor nation to Communist, Jihads and big fat oil executives.

We have been trillions in debt since the first Bush, nothing new there.
A major factor in the cost of fuel is speculation. I routinely look at Bloomberg.com to check the going cost of a barrel of oil and frequently see blurbs stating "the cost of fuel is predicted to rise due to lower inventory levels" or "gasoline prices are forecasted to rise due to refinery shutdowns" even though the cost of a barrel of oil has gone down.
The highest I paid for premium last year was $3.69. Paid $3.53 last week. But there is hope! Bought gas the other night for $3.47.
It could be worse - as of last week aviation gasoline for piston engine aircraft was $4.55.

We could have some really decent electric cars right now, only if our Govmnt. would help subsidize the battery industry in producing better, cheaper and energy dense batteries. But no... everyone in the WH. is a crook and making too much money by keeping all electric cars out of the market place. This is the only reason why Hybrid vehicles exist, its because they still require gasoline and hardly get any improved mileage over non-hybrids cars.
tesla motors is the answer ... if the roadster does as well as it is expected then they will have a car for the masses coming next with tech that has trickled down from the roadster.
Funny thing about electric cars is you gotta burn something the generate the electricity to charge 'em, right? A while back Car & Driver magazine did a piece about electrics and discovered that they actually generate MORE CO2 per mile than gasoline cars because of the amount of coal/oil/whatever consumed to generate the electricity.
Then there's that pesky problem about what to do with all those highly toxic batteries when they wear out.
Sorry, but gasoline cars are here to stay for a bit longer until fuel cells get cheap enough to put into production vehicles.
I read an article just this morning that gas is most likely going to peak above $4.00/gallon this summer. Hold on tight, it's going to be a bumpy ride.
For those of you (here in the US at least) that want to do something about it, write or call your elected officials and tell them to quit worrying about which baseball players took steroids and find out why gas prices have gone through the roof. There is an election year coming up and if we don't make this an issue it will be quietly swept under the rug.

i watched this show on discovery about future cars. their favorite was a car that ran off compressed air. the most amazing thing as that there is potential for an alternator that would recompress air back into the tanks so that you could run forever. as it stands now the car has a 250 mile range and can hit about 90 mph and isn't all that bad looking. they use very light weight materials to build the cars and i believe the cost would be around 15k.
Yeah that was a neat show i saw that as well. I liked the idea of hydrogen cars as well too since they could build the hydrogen separator into a car and be able to run indefinitely. So basically the car just runs off the air we breath!
