Default Oil Change

Guys,

I am about to change the oil in the car for the first time since I got it a week ago. I think I have seen on this form that it holds 8.5 Qt of 0W40 Mobil 1. When I look in the manual under oil capacity, it says 6 qt, which is it, can anyone help?

8.5 Qts of 0W40 Mobil One. If you are doing it yourself, make sure you get the fleece filter and also don't forget to reset the FSS.

I am going to get lambasted for saying this... but I just changed my oil and used a paper filter. If you change your oil more frequently than the 7,000 mile FSS says to a paper will be just fine. Its the easiest car to change the oil on!

I switched to Royal Purple 10w-40 last week, WOW what a difference totally took all the start up noise away. Runs better.

Will a different viscosity really take away start up noise? Mine makes a racket.

Is Royal Purple a special type of oil or is that just the brand? Because I wouldn't stray from the manufac. Required 0w-40 if I were you. Our engine needs fully synthetic oil.

I agree if you are changing your oil at 3 or 4K then i am sure the paper filter will be fine. I let the FSS tell me when to change, so i will go 7-8K between changes so i will use the fleece.

I can assure you i will be alright. i had a e320 for years and the engine doesn't know the difference between 0-40 and 10-40, at least in a warm climate. There isn't anything special about this motor. Try the difference and see for yourself.

I don't see why not use fleece filter when the price difference between them is cents and it is the current recommended MB filter...

But yea it is 8.5 Qt and can even be drained from the top... very convenient...

Sidez... the only reason for me... availability. I can pick up the part they have on hand easily at the auto store right down the street from me. The fleece filter involves me going to a Chrysler or MB dealer and going to the parts department which is about a 20 minute drive from my house... call me lazy!

I'd go for the 20 minute drive and get the correct filter... hey, it's another excuse to get behind the wheel and go for a ride
in the Crossfire.

Seriously, if you are using an 'aftermarket' paper filter be forewarned, they are no where near the quality of the original
OEM paper filter, much less a fleece filter. Why cut corners to save a few pennies...

I see your point benz... I actually used this nice link someone from the forum had provided showing a step by step oil change on an E320 with pictures. The filter used was paper. And after opening up the filter holder and taking out the old filter I realized the one I had (Purolator) was identical in every way to the old filter (a paper one with MB markings). Maybe its just because mine was a 2004 they hadn't switched to fleece? I don't know for sure but I thought the only difference in fleece was longevity?

Good question. It's either 000-180-26-09 or 000-180-31-09

There's some sort of dispute which one it is. If anyone knows for sure, I'd like to hear it.

I changed my oil at 7,000 miles, reset the FSS and now its up to 14,000 and I've yet to get the "Service wrench"... wonder why? I'm going to a road trip soon, so I'll probably be changing it over this next week or so.

I just picked one up from the Chrysler dealer for my SRT (same as Base/Limited?); A 000 180 31 09 and comes in a grey "Mercedes-Benz Genuine Parts" box. Below that number is 05183748AA.

Make sure that, if the silver anti-pilferage seal is broken, the package of o-rings are still in the box.

Press the trip odometer button three times and it'll show you how many miles you have remaining before your next recommended service.

Anyone have an oil change how to?

What's this draining from the top? Going on a road trip this weekend and want to change it before we hit it.

Thanks.

The factory oil filter from the dealer for the '04 Base is the 05183748AA, and it comes in the grey Mercedes Benz box...
