Default first time oil change - but question?

I drained all the old oil uut, put a new filter on, got the FSS right> I only put in 8.2 quarts, but now the dipstick shows over max. Should I drain some of the oil out to get it down between the marks, or what? Thanks.

What does the FSS say? The electronic Oil Level Indicator.

I wouldn't worry too much, once you start driving around it should level out.

I put 8 qts and the filter in. Let it run for a few minutes, then add the other 1/2 qt. All is well.

Where can I find the electronic oil level indicator? The mileage shows 7,000, but is there a symbol nearby?

Drive your car around a bit. Let it set for 5-10 minutes then check the oil. If it is too high I would drain some out. More oil is in some cases worse than too little oil.

I end up putting 8 qts in my oil changes now.

Sorry. I should have told you to read the manual (RTFM to those in the repair/manufacturing biz) to find out how to ask your car for this info. It's in the FSS section.

Turn the key to on/run position. Wait several seconds for the odometer display area to show a symbol for your oil and then press your reset button for the trip meter twice to see the display for your oil level.

My car only requires 8 quarts with a oil and filter change and it is right on full on the dipstick.

I just looked for the first time at my dash level indicator and the dipstick.
Dipstick is at the high mark (cold).
Dashboard says "o.k.".

Just "o.k."? Not "+1/2" or "-1"? Just "o.k."?

I feel somehow cheated...

Is this normal?
