New Owner with Question!
New Owner with Question!
I've been looking to take the plunge and buy a Crossfire for a long time and yesterday I finally did, its a '04 Black Coupe w/ Cedar/Slate interior. It's an amazing car no question. Unfortunately I had quite a drive home after purchase and of course a deer jumped in front of me, I SLAMMED on the brakes and both the deer and the car made it without a scratch. Well the next day I get in my car and see the BAS ESP light on. I assume it has something to do with my emergency stop? Has anyone had this experience, I searched the forum but couldn't find a definitive solution, Id prefer to avoid the dealership if its an easy solution as I only have powertrain warranty remaining.
Oh I tried the left-right calibration trick, no luck. Also unlike others who posted with this problem my spoiler functions as normal, my traction control turns on and off, and it shifts with no issues.
I may have to head to the dealership but I wanted to check with you guys first .
Thanks for your help!

Re: New Owner with Question!
ApolloFX, first off, welcome to the forum. I've got the cedar interior too and I love it.
Try disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes, and then reattach the cables. Drive it for a little while and see if it doesn't go out on its own. Mine did.
Good Luck.

Re: New Owner with Question!
There is a fix in your owners manual. I'm not sure what page its on but it involves turning the steering wheel, on a flat surface full to the left and full to the right and back to center, I believe the key has to be in the on position. This should reset the BAS/ESP system.
I'll find the page when I get home this evening. Mine did the same thing and it takes a while (few hrs) to clear itself. Did your spoiler go up when this happened? Mine did and I got a flashing warning light on the dash.
Same thing happened in our Mercedes and they just placed the steering angle sensor. Hope yours is the easier fix. Welcome to the forum.

Re: New Owner with Question!
Thanks for your fast answers guys!
I tried that calibration trick in the manual before I posted, no luck unless I'm doing it wrong. I turned it center-left-right-center with the engine on in park and the light doesn't go off. On a different note after I turn off the engine and then back on the light stays off till I push the brake in, then the lights back. I haven't tried to disconnect the battery yet as suggested above but I'll try this when I get home.

Re: New Owner with Question!
After I did the reset it took overnight before the problem cleared up?
try the battery fix if that doesn't do it your options that I know of are stop light switch (works off the brake peddle), steering angle sensor or the ABS sensors. You have to get someone to pull the codes for you if our fixes don't work. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Re: New Owner with Question!
It happened to me once, I can't remember what I've done to trigger the BAS/ESP light. I tried the left and right calibration trick in the manual but won't work neither. I was planning to bring it to the dealer, but I was too lazy. And after a couple weeks, the light was gone and good as new.

I've only slammed on my brakes a few times and I never got any lights other than the traction control (TC) light.

The light actually goes off after parked for the weekends, but came back on Wednesday, and more frequently on Thursday, and stayed on Friday.
I can't remember for how long, maybe 3 weeks, then the light is gone and never have that problem again, so far, touch wood.
Re: New Owner with Question!
I took it to the dealership last Friday. They diagnosed the brake/stop light switch as one of you suggested as a possibility. I was actually driving without any brake lights all week, luckily I didn't drive much last week as I didn't even notice! I had it replaced and problem solved!
