Default Yet Another Key Fob Question

Ok, I've owned my 04 Crossfire for about 6 weeks now. Stopped by the local Chrysler Shop and spoke to the parts guy about a spare key and fob for my car. His reply was that they must open a service ticket on the car and place the order for the key. 169 bucks and 4 days later I should have my spare key. Is this way outta whack ?........... Advise ? Please !

$65 at the dealer in San Francisco, CA. The entire key comes pre-key and pre-programmed. Final cost = $65 +tax.

the dealer has to order the key and they laser cut it.
you can program the key ur self , it is in the manual

• Replace the battery cover and press on it until you feel
it engage.
NOTE: Only replace the batteries in pairs.
The system may have to be resynchronized if the transmitter
is without voltage for several minutes. To synchronize,
aim the transmitter eye at the vehicle and briefly
press either the Lock or the Unlock button twice. Within
approximately 30 seconds, insert the key in the ignition
and turn it to the ON/RUN position. The remote control
should once again be operational.

Hiya all, my first post. I bought my Xfire a month ago with only one key. After reading all your great info on the forum I was convinced I had to order key from dealer. I got the car from a VW dealer who ordered it from Chrysler. I think they sold it to me a cost at $55. It worked just fine.

I asked the parts dude if the key was pre-programmed and he said it was. Not sure if they'll sell it as an un-programmed unit but I'll find out. There's also a couple other dealers in the area I'll check with.
Thanks for all the advise ! CrossfireForum Rocks !

What's with the price difference. Such a wide veriance ($55 to $180 Bucks). Sounds like these Chrysler dealers are making up their own prices.

I don't know if it is only limited to the Dodge/Chrysler dealers but I have found a wide price variance for OEM auto parts, from oil filters to fog lights, that I have bought for my Crossfire between the six different dealerships here. My personal experience has been that the strictly Dodge dealerships have given me the lowest price even though they have had to order the parts.
