Default Frequency of OIL CHANGES

I got my Crossfire about 2 weeks ago. I have put about 1000 miles on the car so far. My oil change tracker already has come down from 7000 to 6200!!! I don't drive the car hard but sit in traffic most of my commute. At this rate I'll have to change the oil every 3300 miles or so.

Any tips on how to keep the tracker at 7000 (or more)?

It will adjust itself over time. Mine did the same thing and it went back up to about 7200 before it started to count down again. I bought mine on July 23rd. It had a fresh oil change when I picked it up and read 8200 miles on the FSS display. It dropped to about 7800 on the 150 mile trip home( I drove it HARD), and went up and down until it settled out. The car had 14,250 miles on it when I got it. It now has 20,900 miles on it and still reads about 1500 miles till it's due. So, I'll end up with about 8150 miles on this oil-change. BTW, I race mine and drive it pretty hard, so I would just keep an eye on it. I should work itself out. If you sit in traffic that much it might end up being as low as 6,000 miles, but you will probably get a little more than that.

Um, you know that means 6200 left until change, not change at 6200?

How do you figure that one??? It starts at 7,000. You've driven 1000 and the counter has only decreased by 800....leaving you 6200 more miles before you change oil. You are above 7000 already. If you drive it harder, faster, longer - then you will be up around 9000 or better before an oil change is due.

It's basically a count down timer......it will never stay at 7000 unless you never move the car - ie, make time stand still. As danimal suggests, you're actually ahead of the game, so to speak, since it should in theory read 6000 now that you've used up 1000 of the 7000 allotment. So to speak.

Now that makes some sense! I was wondering what in the heck I'd been doing to reduce the oil change time so substantially. Then I'm actually ahead of the game with 1150 miles driven and 6100 miles on my countdown timer.

Thanks all

Rakoom - Its easy to reset, its in your manual. If you don't have one let me know and I'll get the info for you out of mine.

3,000 miles is typically way excessive for synthetics. Most European cars that recommend synthetics put their intervals at 5,000 or higher.

I believe even the Caddy XLR specifies 7,500 or 1 year.
