Unhappy Rock Rock Rock Paper Sissors & Windshields

Driving home yesterday some idiot throw up a stone that hit the windshield and now I have a chip right in front of the drivers seat. Had a couple right in front of the mirror, but they weren't bothering me.

I'm considering getting them patched, but was wondering if the patches are undetectable or will they be like a magnifing glass. Anyone had any experiences with this?

Professionally done, you will never know it was there. I've also had good results with the DIY kits.

It is illegal in Texas to have that done when it's in the drivers vision. Professionals won't do it if it's illegal. The repair will have a slight distortion.

I know how you feel. I have only had my New Crossfire since October 2007. Last week a big rusty washer fell off a flat bed truck and skipped across my hood putting 2 dents in it before hitting my windshield I tried repairing the hood and airbrushed the touch-up paint on and wet sanded followed by buffing, but you can still see where the repair was made because of the fade in the paint. I bought an old new stock 06 which has been sitting in the sun somewhere for two years. Makes me sick. The whole hood would need to be repainted to hide it, but then it would be darker than the fenders. Can't win. Anyway back to your problem. If you have the chip professionally fixed before it starts to crack you should be OK and won't notice the repair unless you go looking for it. I had this done for about 65.00 dollars a few years back on my truck. If you have never seen it done I would avoid the do-it-yourself kit. I was happy with the results.

many repair shops will eat your comprehensive deductible and bill your insurance directly. AND it shouldn't increase your premiums.

It all depends upon the chip, whether it gets moisture and/or dirt in it, and the how good the person does working the filler into the crack. I have had professional and DIY repairs turn out spotless and I have had them leave dark blemishes. My Crossfire currently has four repaired chips I have done myself with a kit from Wal-Mart. Three of the four are only visible at certain times in the day when the light hits the windshield just right the forth is a dark spot the size of a pencil eraser. The best thing you can do to improve your odds of having an invisible repair is pull over immediately and put a piece of tape over the crack to keep the dirt and moisture out.

I had a bunch of tiny pits in mine from sand or something so I just replaced the windshield. Total cost for that was $290.00.

Well I did the dirty deed. I was in Walmart and in the last section of the auto department I saw the dreaded winsheild repair kit. So I got one and low and be hold, I actually followed the directions and it came out perty good. Not perfect! There is still a little crack showing, but it's sealed up and hardly noticable from both the outside and the inside. So to sum it up, I'm happy and it cost me less then ten bucks .
