Tie Rod Issue
Tie Rod Issue
About 2 months ago, I brought my car in for alignment and my dealer said tie rod is loose so they will replace it and cover under warranty. Week ago, I brought my car in for oil change and they found out tie rod is bent and they need to replace it...It will cost me almost $800 to replce it and sounds bit hight to me... is this about right price??

What proof do you have that your tie rod is bent? Also, which tie rod?
Re: Tie Rod Issue
well...my steering wheel was pulling towards driver's side pretty bad before so I though I had to get an alignment.... but when I went to get my oil change done, I asked them to check the air pressure on my tires and after they checked it, I didn't had steering wheel pulling to one side issue anymore. I don't have any proof other than service dept telling me that I have bent tie rod...I belive they told me driver side tie rod is bent and they need to replace the linkage and damper(??). And $800 cost includes parts and labor.
Re: Tie Rod Issue
I'd get a second opinion from an idependant alignment shop that has a good rep. first.
If they tell you it's bent, find out from them "everything" you need to get it fixed by them. Then price everything out from a parts store.
$800 sounds high to me, but everything at your friendly neighborhood Chrysler dealer usually is.
This is something that doesn't need to be fixed at a Chrysler dealer.

Re: Tie Rod Issue
A bent tie-rod should make the steering wheel tilt one sided instead of straight across when traveling down the street. Are you sure it didn't get bent when they picked it up with the lift? As stated above I would bring it to an independent alignment shop. Have them check it for you. Or your friendly mechanic.
An inspection station that handles foriegn cars might help you out also. Not to say that is what is happening here but I see lots of uneeded work being asked for at dealerships.
