How common are the reds?
My husband would call this a Typical Chick Question, though he also says that I'm a better mechanic than he is(and he's a maritime engineer, so I guess that's a compliment), but I have been slowly looking for what I hope would be my new 'baby' to replace my geriatric, more-problems-than-it-was-worth almost-restored 1970 Datsun 240Z.
So far, the year of the car, at least to me, doesn't matter, nor does the Base versus Limited (here in southernmost TX, leather actually causes me to (ahem) sweat, even with the a/c on full-blast. I do, however, want a 6-speed, which cancels out the SRT6 versions, though I personally prefer the rims over the regular ones, have reconciled myself to the fact that no dealership within 200 miles will be helpful in any repairs, that my insurance might go up, that I will have to use premium gas on it, etc.
But I want one in red. Or gold (there's one on Ebay in that color; looks nice). Too many cars here are silver, black doesn't stay that way for long here (TxDOT constant construction), and the same goes for white.
But red. Just because I like red. Yet I rarely see one. Outside of getting a XF in any other color and then having it re-painted, and getting one new from a dealership (which I REALLY don't want to do since the dealerships here add on ridiculous extra charged due to the 'distance' from their sources), how common is this color?
Like hubby said, Typical Chick Question, but asked sincerely. Any NICE response would be appreciated.

You will be wishing you had gotten an SRT-6, especially at these prices!
I would say the least common would be the yellow (or mustard) roadster, or the pale pale gold color. Other then that, Crossfires aren't as rare as they once were...
Goodluck!

'Nuff said.
If you don't mind a convertible, a special edition base model was made which was red with the SRT-6 wheels. All other base models are black only.
Are you looking for a coupe or convertible?
I have 2 red/burgundy cars and 1 black one.
The Oyster (gold), new silver, and sapphire silver blue are probably the easiest colors to take care of, hide imperfections, etc.
As No Warning Shot mentioned, the SE roadster may suit you with its red color and SRT6 wheels (has cloth interior also).
They are great cars.

In 2006 the roadster lmt came with SRT rims that were dark gray on the inside of the rim. Maybe not all of them, but I have seen them and bought a set on Ebay a couple of months ago. fyi
I vote you go for RED. We don't see many around Dallas. There's a red roadster somewhere in our neighborhood and a red coupe that parks in my garage at work. Other than that we occasionally see one on the highway. Very rare.
Whew! Thanks for the positive answers! And yet more things I did not know about the XF that I do now (especially with regards to rims). I know reds are not that uncommon, it's just that from what I can see on autotrader or cars.com, or other online sites, or even EBay, I rarely see red, so I guess the red owners really hang onto their cars. Or there are reds, but automatic.
I did test drive a convertible that is available locally; it's the nice metallic graphite color, which is another color that I like. And the drive in the convertible was very surprisingly quiet, which is something I cannot say for a former convertible we used to own, a little Z3. I don't mind the convertible, but I'm not yet sure how my insurance company might feel about that. Here by the border, car theft across the international bridges is a big problem (all you really need to do is just DRIVE there), so cutting through the convertible top to access the car is pretty easy, hence the increase in insurance. Plus, I would rarely use the convertible top, since I'm one of those transplanted NYers (work for the federal gov't here) that has yet to acclimate to the weather here, and driving with the top down in the summer would give me sunburn, windburn, and heat stroke all at one time.
I'm not 100% sure, but I thought that the SRT6 only comes as automatic. I want a standard for the simple (and selfish) reason that our trusty '95 4Runner, '98 BMW323is and hubby's DoNotTouch '69 Camaro are all automatics. Since year and to a point, price (as long as I don't have to get a car loan, which I do not want at this time), are not big dealbreakers for me, I want to be able to get The One For Me. And considering that all three of our cars were purchased either out of the state or way up there in Dallas and Houston, shipping a car here is pretty much second nature to me, and oddly enough, ends up being less expensive than expecting a dealership to find me a car. My husband still feels bad that one of the reasons that I sold my 240Z was because we were in a dire financial state, which we recovered, thank goodness, so my future purchase of the XF is something that he literally is giving me complete freedom (like he ever had a choice
)
Thanks for the input.

Too many choices
I have a RED SE Crossfire. I walked into the dealer, there sat the car. It was in "resale" red and the top went down..OTD new for $25K....I have updated with leather power seats, Windstrictor, dash treatment to get rid of the excessive aluminum paint and installed a transparent bra(not fun). I also treated the car with Waxoyl to eliminate and stop corrosion. All my cars are red..That includes a Mini, MGA, Sunbeam tiger and a Triumph R3 motorcycle..
I think the "red" Xfires are stunning. if the SRT came in that color, I would have looked for one!
I have never owned an automatic in my entire life until the SRT. It is that good! It is so good in fact, that I don't miss the standard trans. at all. The transmission is manufactured by McLaren. It is known to be one of the best manumatics around. That is why the SRT and the AMG cars mainly come with this transmission.
