Default Shifter Lock-out???

Hello,

My automatic shifter has locked in Park about three times in as many months. I know the manual says to unlock it with the "Tool" or a pen because of a malfunction with the elctrical system. My question is, what is malfunctioning? I mean what is wrong with the electrical system? Have other members had this problem and what is the fix? Is this just something that happens and I have to live with it?

Thanks,
Allan

Yes, I had the problem with my '04 Coupe Ltd, on & off for about 2 months...only thing I could do was use the tool and release the selector. With mine I often also had an ABS/ES (something like that) warning light appear on the dash. With mine, the problem was a $35 switch -- the one that "tells" the tranny you have your foot on the brake. Even with a MaxCare warranty (car had 22,000 miles), it cost me $250 to fix as that switch was "not covered". Never had a problem again.
