Default Where do you change new tires?

I have been reading alot about the Tire pressure monitor problems recently, and I wonder where do you guys change the new tires? chrysler dealer? local tire shop? costco? Do they even mess up the Tire pressure monitor?

What about the brakes? I think the car has brake-pad sensors as well, anyone have problems with them before?

The only place I trust to change the tires is the Chrysler dealer, and even then I make sure the tech knows about the TPS. I even stand there and watch them change them. I don't trust my local tire shop with my Cub Cadet, let alone my cars.

I have a great tire store in town, so I take all of my cars there. I do however stress about the TPMS and to not over torque the wheels etc... I request a qualified mechanic to do the work and I am willing to pay a little more to insure no problems.

Does Anyone know if the Mercedes has the exact same TPM as ours? So I can bring my car to a store that knows how to change Mercedes tires?

How about other japanese cars like lexus or infinity? I know they also have TPM as well.

Goodyear store did ours. But it took fooreveeer. But, no problem with the TPS. I would also trust Discount Tire. I wouldn't go to the slealer for tire stuff though.

Out west here we have a chain called Les Schwab who are very knowledgeable of TPS systems. However, there not to good about getting your original valve cover back on as I discovered.

I checked for places that carried high end tires, then I visited a few - not too many here in western NC.

I found one that looked sharp, and was servicing MB, Audi, Porsche, etc when I stopped by, and I bought from them.

I did, however, do my homework first, and had internet quotes for the tires that I was considering (Nitto Invo & Vredenstein Sensata). They charged me $60 more than my best I-net quote, and $140 for the rest, but the svc was excellent and hassle free. They even tossed in some spiffy new stainless valve caps.

I trust discount tire also, I have been taking my vehicles there ever since I could drive, and my dad has used them FOREVER! they also are very knowlegable when it comes to TPMS.

I called the local Mercedes dealer and asked them and was referred to a great shop that installed my new wheels and swapped the sensors. I think the key is call around and ask. Most of the speed shops in your area will know someone as well.

I read the service manual about the order of operation for the TPS and decided the best place to go was the Mercedes dealer. I figured they see this all the time, would do it right as a habit, and there would be no worries. Now, the only concern was the cost. But it turned out that they charged me the same amount as the National Tire & Battery (AKA Merchants AKA Tire Kingdom). Same price, better knowlege of the beast. The did it faultlessly, detailed my car for free (not as well as I do, but it was free..) and called me when it was done. I did discuss the TPS bit with them first and even brought the pages from the factory service manual to make it clear in writing what my expectations were. I no longer try to pretend I am not ****, everyone spots it a mile away... Clear understanding up front - no excuses later.

So before you assume your local Mercedes place won't be competitive, check them out - you might be surprised. And you might even get more "Sir this" and "Sir that" than a ranking officer at inspection. That's always fun...
