Default Buying a Crossfire - please advise!

Hi everyone. This is my first post, and it's bound to be long-winded, so please bear with me.

As part of a long-term financial and future planning, I've decided to buy a car. I'm looking for something 2006 or older so someone else eats the depreciation, and I'm about 80-95% decided on a Crossfire.

I've got good financing in place to cover the full amount for most any Crossfire out on the street right now, and my insurance won't be too crazy, either. What I WANT is an SRT6 Roadster w/6-speed manual transmission. Not even sure if such a creature exists, but I've found one with an automatic. At this point I'm willing to sacrifice one of the three (SRT, manual, or droptop) if I can find one at a reasonable price.

I do have a few questions to start off with for Crossfire owners, though:

- Maintenance: I know that Mobil1 is recommended at all times, and since I go synthetic in my Jeep (and also use 93 octane) already, I don't think it would be a problem to change the oil myself. Tires are a concern; I've seen some running 18" front 19" rear, and being non-radials (recommended? stock?) it pretty much makes a spare pointless.

I'm also VERY interested to hear from owners who might have had intermediate or major repairs done. I need to know that if this thing breaks on me, locating and affording parts won't be a show-stopper for me.

- Roadsters: To be honest, I don't need another open-top vehicle - I just want one. Has anyone experienced any problems - no matter how slight - with the convertible top? If so, how easy was it to fix?

I'm sure other questions will spring to mind, but that's all I can think of offhand. Please, share advice that you wish you'd had before you drove away owning a Crossfire. I'm really trying to research this thoroughly, and getting information and advice from owners suits me a LOT better than anything else.

Thanks in advance for helping me out! With any luck, I'll be on these forums for a long time to come!

No manual Srt's they are all automatic. These cars come with 18" in front and 19" in back pretty expensive to replace and cars don't come with spare.

I have an 04 no major problems, good luck with you're search.

Have two SRT roadsters. Have had both tops replaced under warranty due to window separating from canvas. Head Gaskets replaced-slight oil leaking.

No major problems.

SRT is the ultimate way to go.

I just bought mine a couple of weeks ago and got a deal for sure...IMHO...if you could find an 05 with low miles they came from the factory with a 7/70k powertrain warrenty that should be able to transfer for $50 bucks.

I have had no problems with mine and another thing is that yes the tires are expensive but if you looked at tirerack.com I can get a all weather radial for about $800 bucks.

Best of luck!!!

Welcome aboard. I see you said something about the tires being non-radials? That's not the case, they are radials and a tire repair kit comes with the car. I've had mine since April and I'm loving her!

Welocme. You will find this to be a great source of knowledge, lots of helpful people. Learned more hear than the owners manuel. I've had my srt roadster for almost two years now. I don't drive it to work, I need to pick up large objects and more than one other person at a time so my car is used at nights and weekends. The only problem I've had is self induced. Went on vacation and left the key in the off position in the ignition switch. It runs the battery down. I love my srt as much as any car I've had and really don't miss the stick. The automatic does a very good Job.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I've got a line on two different SRT Roadsters right now, running under 25k miles on them. The cheaper of the two is the one I want since it's in basic black. I've already worked up insurance quotes and have financing in place; now it's just down to the haggling.

If not an SRT roadster, a Limited Roadster w/6 speed manual would do nicely. There's a few of them I've found, some even with original factory warranty remaining. We'll see, though - I'm really fighting the urge to go get one right away, and hold out for the best deal on a car that I can live with, no regrets.

It's good to know about the window/canvas issues that some of you have had. Is there any good fix for that for do-it-yourself or vehicles that are out of warranty? Any idea of the cause?

And I am starting to feel less apprehensive about the tires as well. They'll likely be more expensive than the ones on my Jeep, but then again I'm not going to track with this thing every weekend smoking the tires.

Please keep the ideas flowing. I'll be looking at the For Sale forum even more this week as things get down to the wire.

I would get the SRT roadster over the limited. I think after you drive the limited for awhile you'll be wishing it had the power of the SRT. I have not had any problems with my convert top.
Good luck!

I've been watching the SRT's for a while, you might try Yahoo autos, here is a beauty if you could get them to deal.
