2005 crossfire - coupe headlights
new at this, need to ask, my crossfire has develop and bad cloudy film that i can not remove from both of my headlight lens. talked to my dealer and since i have 50k miles on my 2005, there is no warranty on them. got a lens repair company to polish them but did little to help them. any suggestions?
also, rather than purchasing new ones, i decided to look at ebay and located a pair from a "bret higginbotham, aka robyn12388@aol.com, BEWARE of this seller. i purchased them from him on 08/21/2008 and yesterday finanlly got a hold of PayPal and they helped me get a refund from this guy. his excuse was, the thought they had already sent them. my problem with his answer is, i have emailed him for two weeks, with not so much as one answer back, tried calling and his phone number listed was disconnected. does anybody know where , other than at the chrysler dealer, or if anyone might have one or both front headlight lenses.

I was at my dealer yesterday (Normandin Chrysler, San Jose, CA) inquiring about the same headlight problem. Difference is my 2005 roadster is still under warranty - 24 months & 29,900 miles since purchased new with 30 miles on 08/31/2006.
Dealer response was they could polish the head light covers if I paid $89. But not covered by warranty - the reason given was "They cost $500 each". Not my fault they are expensive, but manufactured with an inappropriate plastic.
Maybe all Crossfire owners with this condition should file complaints with DOT in Washington, DC. This condition does appear to affect the headlight beams - safety problem???
With less than 75,000 built, it probably won't take a high number of complaints to reach the right percentage to have the DOT force a recall for these defective headlight covers.

As stated on other threads here you can get that film off by using a plastic polish..I used Plastic-X and it removed it right away, just a little stubborn spot on one that needs some more elbow grease
Had the exterior film myself. After reading the threads on this I tried Meguiar's Plastic-X (may be called Plast-X, someone apparently has "borrowed" it, can't find the tube atm
) and it worked great!

Look on Craigs list and do a search for Headlight refurbish or repair. I got a kid to refurbish my headlights for 60 bucks, they look brand new. There is a 4 step process of buffing and sanding this kid was great!
I also had this problem on my 2005. I tried the meguiars plastix but it did not work. I went to the dealer and mine are being replaced under warranty. I was told it is definately covered because they are corroding. You guys might need to go to a different dealer if possible.
Mine has this problem and I just bought the car from a dealer (2005 Coupe 160 miles). I did call and ask about a warranty replacement and was told no. I bought a refinishing kit from Autozone and used it. Surface was still not good enough so I got out the buffer with a foam pad and used some Meguiars swirl remover. Surface is still not like new. I will be harrasing the dealer some more and filing a compalint with Chrysler and or the DMV. This is a material problem and should be covered under warranty.
When the dealer is replacing these, are they being replaced with a better lens or are these going to suffer the same problems over time?
Has any one had problems with the "replacement" lens??

This is unknown. I have noticed that when people replace them they do not tend to haze anymore...oh no now they will fog up. ha ha. a friend on here has a new set and the inner bezels look different than mine so maybe its a new design? (crosses fingers). I get my new ones tomorrow (YES UNDER WARRANTY)
I am the friend of caddyman 3 and my headlights compared to his is crazy! The silver bezels around the projectors in the old headlights have a matt silver look. No gloss at all and mine in the new headlights look almost chrome. There is quite a difference.
I'd like to know what the long term outlook is on the replacement sets as well. Just had mine done in Late July and would like to know how long it will be until I have to break out the Plast-X.

Fact is the haze and etching will come back, even new units seem to be prone to this. When I see mine getting that way, usually after 3-4 months I break out the Scratch-X and the Porter Cable and they are better than new in no time. For the guy that paid 60 bucks.......next time I'd advise you to buy a Porter Cable buffer and some scratch X. It'll take you all of 5 minutes and you can use the PC to buff your car.

I believe I saw it on this site, however, please google if you can't find the instructions here.
It involves wet sanding and 1500 & 3000 grid paper. I thought I bookmarked the source, but I can't locate it now.
I'm fortunate enough that the dealer replaced my 2005's blurred our lens under warranty.
Good luck!

I'd try Scratch X first before I'd sand anything. 3M also makes a very effective Plastic Cleaner that I've used with success even without the Porter Cable. As I said above even the replacement lenses haze and etch. I treat those lenses like my paint, they get polish once a month and a detail spray after every weekly wash. Ever since we've noticed this problem I make a mental note to look at other cars and I see this on a lot of vehicles, not just ours. One more time, the solution is a Porter Cable, orange cutting pad and Meguiars Scratch X. You will be amazed.

I dont know why, but mine were replaced under warrenty. No problem, just had them order new ones. I think Chrysler had a recall on them in the past. Check for past threads on this subject.
two local dealers wouldn't do anything for mine, and they're the worse i've seen from any pics. i bought my car new in 2007 its a 2006 modle, and my co workers 2004 isn't even as bad as mine. the dealers actually tried to blame my custome paint job as the culprit saying it looks like "they" cleared over them. i quickly told them "no, i didn't and i have pictures of them out of the car while i was painting it."
anyway no love here for me.
