Navigational System
Navigational System
I'm toying with the idea of buying an '05-'06 convertible for my son to take to college. A GPS system is a must.
Could someone tell me the approximate cost of this option when the car was purchased? I want to be able to factor that cost into the equation when prices are thrown about between sellers and potential buyers.
Thanks.........

Definitely agree with that.....
They even have a GPS that sounds like the original KITT from Knight Rider, by MIO.
See here - http://www.knightridergps.com/
If it also came with the Turbo Boost button I'd be all in.
Re: Navigational System
The factory nav is primitave and worthless(especially if you live in a constantly changing city). When I bought my 04 Ram 1500 it had/has factory nav and the dealer tried to sell me on how rare and great it was. I then proceeded to tell him how worthless it was as I showed him that the nav. said that the truck was in the middle of the desert(with no roads) when in fact we were at the dealership!!! That quickly dropped the price another $600.
I had a Pioneer AVIC-N3 touchscreen flip out nav. system with backup camera in my SRT-4 and LOVED it.

Why pay $1500 for something that's built in and owners are already having trouble getting updates. Go with a nice portable (anywhere from $130-300) and you can move it between cars. I like the Garmin 670 series. But I tried them all and they are similar -- it came down to price and user preference on some of the navigation.

It then got stolen (left it on my windshield)... I tried a Tom-Tom but returned it within a few days. (One of their more "expensive" units..)
Since then.. I've moved into a Kenwood KVT-815DVD.. it's a single din in-dash with a screen that pops out.. and the Kenwood KNA-G510 navigation.. which is basically a garmin unit rebranded kenwood (it even says Garmin on the actual box..) made to work for the in-dash players..
In total the system will of costed me about 1200$, but it is WELL worth it. I also have my iPod / iPhone hooked up, and in the center console.
I now have everything hidden, no virtually 0 risk of anything being stolen, which includes my radio, navigation, iPod.. etc.
I had a chance to check out the "stock" navigation that came as an option and it was GOD awful. Quote from another member "it'll getcha home but not much else"

For the most part, the GPS does work, but IS very limited. Bottom line, I would not pay an extra $100 to have this as an option. Don't let a seller try to use that option as a reason to boost price.
