Hello to fellow Crossfire enthusiasts. Just joined the CrossfireForum a few weeks back and thought I'd introduce myself. Wife & I had been looking for a good low mileage Crossfire for several months now. Located a 2007 Crossfire Limited Coupe with automatic on a Mitsubishi dealer's lot in KCMO during a visit to see my dad back in SEP. Car had only 1500 miles on it. Was bought new from a dealer in Lee's Summit, KS in MAR/08. Owner didn't like the car after owning several Eclipses. Traded the Crossfire for a new Eclipse (imagine that!). Anyway, picked up the car for less than private value and drove it home to SC. So far, wife & I really enjoy the car and I really like the driveability & performance. Not sure the color is correct in my signature below, but that's what the dealer called it.

I've been a limited performance car owner for quite a few years. I bought a 1986 Merkur XR4Ti new back in NOV/87, when that car sat on a dealer's lot for over a year. Ended up owning 88 & 89 models also. Just recently sold the 88 & 89 cars, and will soon sell off my 86 XR4Ti. Just don't have the time anymore to fiddle with the Merkurs.

Wife & I have been 'empty nesters' for a few years now & we like taking off for short weekend getaways. The Crossfire fills the bill when it comes to these road trips.

Anyway, I'll be around from time to time.

Later,

Dennis, I hope you have as many years of enjoyment with your Crossfire as you had with your Merkur.
If memory serves, the Merkur was a pretty quick car. But the Crossfire should fill the bill quite well.

That guy must have been nuts. I owned one Eclipse, that was enough for me...

Welcome to the Crossfire family. I have owned two of them, and they are one of the neatest cars out there...and of course, you don't see yourself coming and going all day long, so that's a plus. Enjoy!

Thanks to all for the welcomes! Roberta & I have already marked our calendar for the Carlisle Chrysler event. We typically made the All-Ford Nationals event at Carlise every year. My 86 Merkur was usually a winner in Stock class every year and the 88 has taken home several awards, along with the MCA (Merkur Club of America) XR4Ti Restoration Award back in 2006. MCA has won the club participation award 9 out of the past 10 Carlisle events!

And I'm marking my calendar for this event in the Smokies. Roberta & I spend quite a bit of time in the Smokies since they're only a 1-hr drive from us.

You guys need to mark your calendars for the 2009 Euro Auto Festival held at the BMW plant in the Greenville-Spartanburg area of Upsate SC. This event is held every year in OCT and the cars have to be of European origin. Guess What - Crossfires qualify! If you enter a car, you'll get the opportunity to participate in the driving venues BMW offers to car entry owners. BMW supplies the cars and you'll get to drive in 4-5 events that are setup. Autocross, performance runs at BMW's nearby performance track & center, off-road tests, etc. Z4's, X5's and X6's typically are cars BMW provides, since these models are produced at the BMW SC plant.

You really don't want to miss this event! Besides, you'll see Porsches, Ferrari's, BMW's, M-B's, Saab's, Mini's, Triumphs, MG's, Lambo's, Pantera's, VW's, etc. all parked on the grounds of the plant. German food, there's even a road rally scheduled for Sunday AM where you'll get to drive around the nearby countryside, looking for various markings and end up back at the plant after about 2 hrs of driving enjoyment. Folks around here sorta anticipate this road rally as you'll see them sitting on front porches waiting for a Porsce, Lambo, or Ferrari to go by. Just doesn't happen on their road everyday!

I'll stay in touch.

Congrats and welcome to the forum, Great Choice!!

Wasn't the Merkur XR4ti basically a ford escort or something close?

Hoping to join you guys at 'the tail of the dragon'. Very familiar with this stretch of road as I'm in to '2-wheeling' also. Looking foward to this event.

Not even remotely close. It was a German RWD Ford that had the same Turbo 4 clylinder, that came in the Turbo T Bird, and the SVO Mustang, I think.
I had the pleasure of driving one down to Orlando from Akron Oh. about 20 years ago and was VERY impressed with its performance, and handling, (and that's coming from a guy who isn't exactly "Ford" friendly). Even though my two "Best" friends own em.

Merkur Xr4Ti's were sold by Mercury dealerships (major marketing error by Ford in late 80's) from 1985 thru 1989. As mentioned, Turbo 2.3 liters (mildly rated by Ford) with RWD and 4-wheel independent suspension. Way before its time. Car was much lighter than Turbo T-Bird, SVO Mustang, and Cougar XR-7 (I bought an 85 model new). Cars were sold as Sierra's in Euorpe and came with all kinds of options, including a 4x4 Cosworth 2-liter, DOHC turbo with 225-hp rating. Some folks in MCA have had their modified XR's on the dyno at Carlisle and recorded 400-hp at the rear wheels! Not bad for a 4-cylinder originally slated for the Pinto!

Anyway, I'm a 'gear head' by passion and my current interest is focused on the Crossfire. I'm especially fond of cars that are of limited production and rarely seen around town. I don't like driving something that everyone else has.

Not sure about the color. Has a somewhat steel metal gray look to it. Anyone got a clue as to what the actual color is called?
