2004/2005 Crossfires Used and Warranties
I am looking for a 2004/2005 Crossfire under 13,000 quite a few out there, but the problem I am running into the majority of these are 2nd owner cars or have more than 48000 miles voiding the Chrysler Warranty. I am also under the impression seeing as these cars are on the second owner the 7/70 is non-transferable. Does anyone know if a warranty is available for the Crossfire if my purchase will be the 3rd owner or if it is over 48000 miles. I have found one I really like, but I would be the 3rd owner and get shafted if I would have a major repair arise.
if you buy a used 04 Crossfire built before 10/01/03 (see edge of driver side door for date), the 7/70 powertrain warranty transfers automatically, with no restrictions (with a few exceptions such as commercial vehicles) on subsequent ownership, and at no cost. buy a used 04 or 05 Crossfire built after 10/01/03 and you have to pay $150 to transfer the powertrain warranty within 30 days of purchase if you are the 2nd owner. but there is no coverage for third or subsequent owners. in the used car market, 06 and later Crossfires have no powertrain coverage at all.
I purchased a used (second owner) '06 base model with 9,000 miles on the factory 36,000 mile warranty. At the time of purchase I opted for the extended warranty (bumper to bumper) which unless I'm mistaken includes power train, good for a total of 96,000 miles.
It is transferable to the next owner upon a $100.00 transfer fee.
I would assume the same circumstances would apply for an '04 uear but its probobly pretty rare as not too many of us suckers go for the extended warranty bit
.
I find it strange that any manuf. would offer a warranty not covering powertrain...whats the point?

I just want to make sure being the third purchases I would be able to get the 7/70 transfered. Paying a 150 or 50 transfer fee isnt concern I just wanted to make sure I could do that and it would be available. In a year or so based on current work situations I could afford a major repair just not in March or April :-).
Key point is that the warranty cannot be transferred to the 3rd or subsequent owner. Get it checked out real well by an indie mechanic who knows M-B. Overall these cars are pretty reliable unless they have been abused.
I've owned one since new and put 5k miles on the SRT6 this summer, with no problems. (Yes - the intercooler failed on the SRT6, but I expected that and it was covered under warranty). I did buy the 2007 for my son but it had 8k miles and two years of warranty left -- and I paid $16.7 instead of $13k for that extra protection. Another reason I avoid aftermarket warranty is that 1) I'd rather bank the cash and use it in case and 2) if you wreck the car, you lose the warranty.
