Default Crossfire Spoiler completely vandalizied

I had my rear spoiler up today and there were a couple of young kids that vandalizied it. The whole spoiler is completly broken off. Im gonna purchase the whole spoiler but I wanna know, is it very diffucult to remove the rear spoiler and put in another one or would I be better off having chrysler do it. Chrysler in my area rips customers off big time so I was thinking of just purchasing the piece and doing it myself.

Thanks,

Sorry to hear of the damage. There have been a few threads here on working on the wing. Try searching for a thread on wing + noise as I think that one had some pictures.

Thanks,
What on earth did they do? Did they destroy the arms and motor as well? How did they get it off? ANy other damage?

Sorry to hear about it, but dont let this make you flip your lid, not that you are (more to the comments) Today we let the (somewhat small) stuff get inthe way of the real things in life, and no excuses for those kids but something has to messed up in their lives to do something to your property like that. I feel sorry for them and hope that they did not mess up your ride too bad. Trust me I feel your pain (am a car guy as I think we all ar) but comments like the sticker that says "if you value your life...." they really disturb me because these are cars not people. O.K. off the soap box but just keeping it in perspective I hope

As an FYI one of our members was looking to make a Carbon Fiber spoiler for our cars if you still have the wing you can likely donate it to him and he will give you a free CF one for allowing him to use it as a mould. I can send you the thread if you want.

Valk-you beat me to it. Good help.

And I'm really sorry to hear this news. I just have trouble figuring out the behaviour of some folks/kids.

If someone caught my child doing this, the victim would be the least of his worries!

If you have a body repair shop that you trust, they could do the install for you. Never understand the motivation of vandals. Good luck.

I rent in a low-income part of my college town and I always worry about leaving my wing up (so I never really do, except maybe after I just washed it). It seems like such an easy thing for a vandalize because someone could leverage down on it with their weight fairly easily. It makes me cringe.

Sorry to hear about your damage. If you plan on having your insurance cover it, I would take it to the dealer for reasons related to warranty.

Look at Valk's post #8. James1549 can give you all the details. He just pulled his spoiler off and put the SRT6 wing on.

Hey guys, no problem to answer the question.

But first I wish people would sign their postings so we know who we are talking to, -- user-names seem so impersonal when replying to a posting.

To remove and install a new wing assy is very easy and shouldn't take more than about 30 minutes. I saw a white one on ebay. Which could easily be taken apart and painted seperately.

Open hatch
Remove cap and screw from hatch trim pull handle.
Pull off lower section of trim using the pull handle.
Unplug 2 electrical connectors.
Remove Sixteen nuts with a 10mm socket.
Partially close hatch and gently work loose the wing assy and pry with only your fingers from the edges.
The wing assy may be stuck because of the gasket but it comes off with patients.

To install new wing assy, reverse proceedure being sure assy is centered before bolting in place. Also you may want to purchase a new strip of rubber gasket to prevent any water leakage. 1/4"X 1/4" self adhesive rubber weather stripping will work fine from a hardware store.

I would be willing bet the white wing on eBay is a steal at that price. It had a BIN of $299. I hate to think what the dealer cost would be. If you still have your wing, and it wasn't damaged, it should bolt right to the new mechanism.

Let your insurance cover the repair.

I did purchase it, I believe its a major steal for 299. I would have my insurance cover it, but I just have a feeling that they will raise my insurance up. Also, I have a 1000 dollar deductible.

Im just going to have a loyal body shop in my area do the job. I have to get it repainted anywayz because my crossfire is black.

Thanks everyone, Any other suggestions, please advise.

Frank

FJ - Vandalism is Comprehensive coverage and a comp claim should NOT affect your insurance rate. If you have a 1000$ deductible on comp you should look into lowering it. Comp is usually not that expensive to have a lower deductible. You need to discuss this with your agent. He/she should advise you the proper thing to do. If you have already done the repair show them your receipts. I sell insurance and I'm amazed how little people know about their coverages. If I can be of help please pm me.
Good luck.

By the way welcome to the forum!
