Default Is The Steering Wheel Leather? How do you care for it?

Is the crossfire steering wheel leather? Can you treat it with a leather cleaner? Is there a product that works best to help restore steering wheels from sun damage and drying out? Some of you have been really helpful and I appreciate the responses. Just wanted to ask the whole forum on their opinions..... Thanks guys!

Lots of good leather cleaner/conditioners on the market - Meguiar's, Lexol, Zaino, Adam's, etc. Find one you like and use it regularly. Routine maintenance is far, far easy that defect correction. Most people wait until a problem gets so bad, whether on interior or exterior surfaces, that nothing in a bottle will fix it. Then they get mad.

Best way to care for the steering wheel, get a cover.

No cleaner, no oils, no protectorant can keep the salts, grit and oils on your hands from grinding it down.

A good Cover costs $10.00 tops

Matching steering wheel for a Crossfire in 5 years? Priceless

I've used Meguiar's leather care products on my Audi and roadster for years. I have the top down most of the summer, but the car is garaged. The steering wheel looks like new after 32k miles. Don't like the idea of a steering wheel cover. On the other hand, I've taken a rash of $hit for putting a bra on the car. I just don't want to have a droopy front end when the car is older.

Assuming that our steering wheels are leather I decided to try a leather cleaner/conditioner. I just put some maguires on my steering wheel (the good stuff with aloe). I looked at the rag and it was disgusting! Lots of black on the rag... so either that was dirt on my steering wheel or it took the dye off. I can't tell in the garage so I will check it out tomorrow in the sun. But I have a feeling it helped. The steering wheel feels really good to the touch!

Most of that crud is skin cells, oils and dirt from your hands. You will need to clean the wheel often if going bare is your choice.

Hard to believe the eco system that thrives on your steering wheel.

The first wipe produced a lot of dirt on my white cloth... I couldn't believe how it looked.

The interior of my car is spotless. I vacum, use a damp rag and dust on a regular basis. I was very surprised to see that much dirt on my wheel.

check out a product called WHEELSKINS, its a leather wrap for your steering wheel. I put a two-tone black and red one one on my rdstr. Looks awesome in the cedar/slate interior. Took about 30 minutes to install

I picked up my 05 Roadster in July 07 - have used Meguiar's leather cleaner for years, works great. Car has the cedar interior - and I am finding that the color is coming off and becoming black on the ridge in the middle of the wheel - so as much as I don't like covers - I will probley be putting 1 on before it gets worse, Has anyone else with either the vanilla or cedar interior have the same issue?

MAKIII,

I had the same issue with my '05 Roadster (Vanilla / Charcoal) steering wheel. In fact in 50K miles and three years of "spirited" use that was the only significant issue I had with the car (OK lets not include shinning the rear tires smooth a couple of times ).

I did try to dye it once but didn't have any luck and the color wore off in a few months. Thankfully my new '08 Roadster has the same interior but came with a charcoal covered steering wheel.

When I picked up my new one the dealer said that this was a common problem with the vanilla interior and that was probably why Chrysler replaced it with the darker leather. I tend to think it was just cheaper to have all the steering wheels the same color but that's just me. It's really too bad because I liked the vanilla steering wheel better but this one sure doesn't show the dirt.

Stay safe...

Respectfully,

Paul (MisterTaz)

I have to agree, I always use a wheel cover. It's the best way to keep your wheel clean.
