Default Throttle Body Reset?

The throttle body reset... does this apply to all Crossfires? Exactly what does it do? Does it give you more of a punch when you hit the gas?

1. Get in your car

2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter
turns over.

3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.

4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back
to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas
pedal.

5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment.

6. Drive the car as you always do.

Theory is the ECU adaptively learns your driving style. This resets it to learn mode so you can teach it to be more aggressive.

Is this fact or fiction? Does it really adjust to your driving? I don't remember seeing this in the owners manual.

Do not do this on a Toyota or Lexus. For these cars they suggest new floor mats and a pedal replacement.

+1 - and Gary, even with an SB and a heavy foot, if it has been a while since you did one, give it a try, you will notice a difference, trust me

BC and I met a black SRT Roadster in the Target parking lot near our house a couple weeks ago and I thought this might be a post from him (as we told him about the reset) until I noticed the thread start date. Long live ze old threads, eh?!

Anyway, I usually reset my throttle in prep for "real" driving (mountain/track) as opposed to everyday driving. I definitely notice the difference. I have a manual tran NA Limited at a mile/more altitude - one tends to notice anything and everything.

The thing is that this resets your throttle to learn mode. So if you had it "taught" already to accept aggressive inputs, then it now has to learn that all over again.
This would explain Gary's experiences. He drives "crazy" all the time. Trust me.

A sprint booster will hide this somwhat but still you will see a difference. Especially if there are two drivers.

One trick to remember if you are buying a used Crossfire. If you get in one a little doggy, don't let the sales guy know the secret. Tell him the car is doggy and see if you can use it to bargain. Show him the throttle lag and how slow it accelerates.

Then do the throttle reset without his knowledge and see if things improve.

Even if you don't buy, he will likely have no idea it happened. After four or five people test drive it, it will again be doggy.

I did it once, with the guy sitting in the car doing his sales pitch for over two minutes. I just let him yak yak away. Not only did he not know cr@p about the product he was overselling, he had no idea what I had done.

The only new Toyota I ever owned required about $6,000 worth of warranty work in the first 3-4 years.

As asked previously, is this fact or fiction?
If it is fact where can you see it written down?
I looked in my handbooks (na and SRT-6) and I cannot see it mentioned in the index.

YES IT IS FACT!!
cheapest mod you can do!

I do it everytime after the wife has the car for a week.

It doesn't work for lead foot drivers like Gary.
You see the big difference with changing drivers that drive very differently.

Shark067 and the roadster with a stick do that here in St Louis also.

Only way to drive this car.
Otherwise, just get a Chevy limpala 4 door sedan.

FACT - I drive conservative daily to work - the reset puts the fun back into the throttle response.
