Find another one Deb and hope you keep getting better as I'm sure you're still sore. Take care.

You're looking at a ton of time and materials on that back corner to get everything lined back up how it should so yes, it is more likely than not totaled.

Not sure where the car is at this point... had my wrecker guy pull everything that wasn't bolted down out of it for me. The Insurance company came and picked it up and took it to a salvage yard, wondering if I can find out which one and tell them I need some stuff out of it...??

If the SC tag is still on it, you definitely have a right to know where the car is and retrieve at least that. Any small stuff, like speaker covers, that can be removed without much effort, could be salvaged by you during that visit. And my recommendation is if you don't have the means (storage location, time, and wherewithall) to remove parts, don't mess with a "buy pack" for salvage. I know folks on this forum would like to have the stuff from the front end because it's intact, based on your posted pic of damage. They aren't the ones typically that would be removing the parts. Nothing against them, that's just the way it is. In the past, I've done some junk yard trips for Merkur parts when I found one locally. I could always sell them on eBay to fellow Merkur owners for a sizable profit.

And the salvage yard, assuming they've already paid your insurance carrier for the wreck, knows this fact too and won't part with the car without some profitability in the "buy back". The motor alone is worth some real coin! The salvage yard may even closely scrutinize your visit because they want to sell any & all parts off the vehicle. It could be worth 20-30x in parts what they paid the insurance carrier for it.

I've never yet met a salvage yard man that was poor! Their "Field of Wrecks" are typically worth a bunch!

My poor Cork Soaker, You would not want it back after an accident anyways. they never seem the same afterwards. Just pull your mods off the old one (if you can) and get as much from the insurance as possiable and start over fresh on a different SSB crossfire! Happy to see you doing well!!

Deb,
If you get a chance to find out the salvage company's name, let me know so that I can get that bumper. You car will live on in the front of mine!

I know your busy dealing with all this so if you have the chance in your travels to get a few last things.

Deb said the transmission would not go into PARK - sounds to me like the impact damaged the drive train - maybe pushing the rear end / drive shaft into the transmission. If that is the case, the motor mounts have been compromised as well as the frame. We are talking THOUSANDS to fix it right? I mean $13 to 20K right?

It's totalled, period - IMO.

And you can't "buy" a valid used tag can you? That means the salvage yard HAS to surrender it, I do believe!

Deb- same goes for us in Metro Detroit, if you need a car checked out let us know we'd go give it a pre-view for you gladly. It broke our hearts to see yours all crunched. Go onto Craigslist, put in states, then choose towns near you and search for Chrysler Crossfire, there are always many in our area. If you were able to wait until Jan/Feb you'd snag a very good deal then as someone selling at that time really needs the cash.

Deb, She is a goner. Not even on life support would you want this baby back.

Look a what that guy did to such an nice butte! The rear end on that baby is toast and would never be the same. Although I could not se the side I am sure that the rear axle is pushe in, tranny damaged, internals crushed and well the fuel filling system compromised. Its a blessign that you did not catch fire!

Bid her goodbye and enjoy looking for a new baby!

This is what it looks like without the bumper, if any of this is bent you would not want it and believe me its bent. Straightened out it would never be as strong and as true as it was, the hatch, lights etc would not fit properly and you would come to regret the repairs.
Say goodbye to it and find another to love.
