Default HomeLink (Universal transceiver) fixed

Thanks to Dan and others for the advice. Drove a block away so I would not cycle my garage door I left the engine running (contrary to written instructions in the manual) and properly cleared and installed my garage door opener code into the transceiver. Then installed the code for the gate, one button required for in and one for out, and everything worked as advertized. Probably would have been alright just to have the key on. As I mentioned to Dan, when all else fails, ignore the instructions. Now I'm a 100% happy camper....Best regards - Bob

On gate controls (assuming yours are like mine, though I have a single code for both open and close), I found a couple things other might find useful:

1) The range seems very limited. I must be within two car-lengths of the gate (ususally more like one) to activate it. Thus I end up waiting, instead of hitting it half a block away and having it open when I get there.

2) Unlike my remote for the gate, I have to hold the button on the transceiver until it opens (not just push and release).

3) I also have to time it. With one code both open and closed, and needing to keep the button depressed, if I hold it too long I will open the gate about a foot / foot-and-a-half and then shut it again.

All in all, still better than clunkly, unmatched remote attached to the visor.

My dealer told me it will not work in Europe "it is a US thing" he says this because he asked the headquarter in my country and this was there answer... I did not think a frequency recorder (what the home-link universal transmitter/receiver is) is designed for US only but just to record and transmit again. Maybe I see this a bit in a simple way but as soon as my car was in the garage I tried it by the bookı, only with engine running and every thing works fine. My garage port has a single frequency code open and close are the same. My findings after 1 day is that the homelink device works better than the original remote controls that came with the garage port...

 =

Range is ok on mine - between 40-50 feet. My gate control has two buttons on it - open and close, otherwise it would open both gates at the same time, so I just programed both gate buttons in addition to the garage door, thankfully three buttons are available.
