Considering all the XFs produced and this forum being a center point for help, it may seem like this is a frequent problem. If we roll up all the miles of everybody on the forum, I am hoping that the number of times that this happens is minimal.
We hadn't had our Durango for too long - bought it brand new - and my wife ended on being an item on all the radio and tv traffic reports! Friday afternoon - rush hour traffic - there is an SUV (ours) stopped dead in the middle lane of I-4 westbound just south of downtown Orlando.
AAA made my wife a priority call -
. The solution was to replace the same part we are talking about here with the XF. Moral of the story - travel safely, have a towing service, travel in a caravan when you can.

No doubt, I LOVE My CROSSFIRE, and am now selling my 97 Mustang GT Convertible, which I dearly love and it pains me to get rid of....I know all cars have their problems and my Crossfire even though an 04 with 27,000 on the clock has not encountered any problems could have some issues, is at the moment like a new car... I LOVE this car. She is perfect. Every time I drive it I love it more.
PS and I did subscribe to AAA. Just to be on the safe said if I am on the road alone. And ahhhh that AERO BLUE is a beauty, Love love love that color!!

By the way, when my RCM failed a couple months ago, I replaced it with the MB part and saved hundreds.
The MB dealer said these things go out all the time in both the Crossfire and the SLK because of engine heat melting the solder.
Like others, I waited about a half hour for the car to cool down and then restarted no problem.
I have the old RCM if someone want to experiment with a solution (or if you know one, I'll give it a try).
Thanks to the forum, I've saved thousands of dollars while keeping my '04 Blaze Red running in tip-top shape!

On another note: Again, I repair electronics for a living, have for 28 years. I would LOVE to get my hands on a known-bad relay module and see what I find.
See... back years ago, we had Scanner modules in Motorola Micor police radios that failed often - it was an odd manufacturing defect that was VERY repairable. It took about 20 minutes to fix with a soldering iron, sharp knife and some solder. The fix was forever - the factory had made a critical but simple error in manufacturing that took abotu 2-5 years to show up. You desoldered, scraped the islands clean around a certain transistor(s) and then resoldered. The board would NEVER fail again, if you did it right.
This failure of "solder cracking" sounds like the same thing. It CANNOT get hot enough under the hood to melt solder - rosin core solder melts around 500F.
I would lay money on this bet: This is not a heat problem, its a manufacturing technique problem of some sort. Heat only plays a secondary role here, heat causes things to change size and "make contact" at the right temperature. But the PROBLEM is in the soldering/assembly of the board. Soldered connections are reliable - when done right. When done wrong, they are the source of TERRIBLE intermittant failures that can be AWFUL to find!
Sure would like to see a "failed" board and see what's going on.

Sent ya a PM about the RCM.
Thanks.

Yes I meant there are no codes. All the lights work as well as the radio, A/C etc. but when you turn the key you get nothing. The battery checks out OK.
mine happens to be dead battery. But I thought when battery is dead, you are not supposed to turn the radio on?? And stealership wants to charge $298 for battery and labor....

Way to much for a new battery,
There was a recent thread about a new battery.

This country is without hope.

RCM
Received NYPD-Crossfire's Relay Control Module and found his problem. I will repair it, add the "Me so Horny" mod (if he wants it) and return it.
Now if I can get a few more to look at to see if it is a common problem that would be cool!
Anyone else that has a bad RMC that wants it looked at and (hopefully) repaired let me know. Lets get this problem figured out once and for all!

Tighed1, so what did you find wrong with the RCM? Inquiring minds want to know......
My car is doing the exact same thing, it also stops running while I am driving it so be aware....I was on another site and these 2 problems seem to go hand in hand. I have had my car in the shop 3 times in 3 weeks, they cannot find anything b/c it is not throwing a fault code. I am in Ohio so if you ever find out whats wrong with yours give me a shout back! I am waiting to see if a co-pilot can be attached to my car which is supposed to record the problem when it happens. Good luck...I have only had my car for 4 weeks
. IT looks good tho!
Did you ever find the problem, b/c my car does the same thing, Im afraid every day when I drive 2/from work that it may die on the freeway and I get ***-ended and you know there aint no ***!
