The metal gas cap.
Has anyone scratched their paint while fueling?
I haven't, but could see it happening if I got in a hurry.
I'm (usually) careful to rest the plastic part against the car.

Funny you should write this about the gas cap. First time I filled the Xfire, I had the same thought. I bought a Rubber bib from Griot's garage. It fits perfectly in the gas filler area. I roll it out and that stop any damage. You still have to be careful. I think I payed about $10 for it. It works great.

The white color of your car, oh sorry alabaster,
The little cap holder thing-a-ma-hickey works great &, after some practice, becomes second nature. I can stuff the cap in there now with my eyes closed. Try it, it holds the cap pretty nicely especially if the plastic retainer is broken, like on the wife's Coupe.
^^^ Agree, I do not see the problem, they already included a perfect way to stop it from getting scratched, the cap holder build into the fuel door..... use it.
I agree it is not a big problem so much with the gas cap but how about the refueling nozzle dinking the car below the filler door. That is what I really was solving with the bib that falls and covers that area. Sometimes I get lazy or am in a hurry and want to wash my windows at the same time as I'm getting gas.

That rubber bib should have been a standard feature on the Crossfire from the factory. My friends 1975 Datsun 280Z has one and it provides great protection.
But with the rediculously short life of some of the other rubber parts on my Crossfire, if it had a bib from the factory it would have disintegrated a long time ago like the wiper blades, and the gas cap's tether.
The gas cap holder (on the other hand) works great, the lid just falls right in.
