Different Color Backup Lights
Does anyone know why my '04 has different color backup lights, red on the left and white on the right. Just attempted to have it inspected and the inspection station noticed it and rejected the inspection. How did the one on the left become red? I just purchased this car about 6 weeks ago. I,ve been waiting to receive my PA state registration until now. The inspection station said it might be an after market lense.

It appears to be the color of the lense, not the bulb. That's what the inspection station said too. I'll have to take a closer look at it, maybe we're both wrong. Would a red bulb make the lense look red when it's not lit?

Turn on your headlights and pull the switch out two clicks and see if it the one side lights up red.

The Euro lens has the passenger side lens "red" in that position. Rear fog light.
I looked up the PA Inspection laws regarding lighting and it only mentions that back up lights cannot be on when the car is moving forward. It doesn't mention if you need one or two to pass.

I just pulled out the bulb and it is white. The lense still seems to have a red coloring on the inside. Still perplexed! Does anyone know how much this replacement lense cost. I don't think the warranty will cover this replacement. I'm going to call the Chrysler dealership now.
I'd like to know how a Euro-spec car got here. Did someone buy it in Europe and have it shpped here? Your dealer should be able to find out if it was made for here or there-and make it right (for no charge) if it was delivered to USA with a lens that is not "in spec" for US safety laws. Did it light up as a "rear fog" when you pulled the light switch out 2 clicks?
(See post #4?)

I checked with the dealership. It seems the tail lights come with or without backup lights for use in the US. The previous owner replaced it with the wrong one. The car came from NJ where it doesn't effect the state inspection. The dealership said it effects the state inspection in PA. It costs $350.00 from the dealer. I've been checking around on the internet and I've found it from $185.00 to $285.00. I don't know if these are cheaper versions or original MOPAR parts.

Hmmmm. not that I would ever advocated doing anything wrong, but are there any members that live close to you that could let you borrow their tail light lens for a day?
Save some money for a rainy day. lol!

And something else to think about:
Chrysler dealerships are NOT ALLOWED to order the clear front side markers. For not meeting US or state safety specs. (Alabama laws don't even address this issue).
I would think the same would go for this. Take it up the chain of command and ask the regional service manager how this could happen. If it is a safety issue, hold your ground and demand they make it right. It shouldn't matter if the previous owner swapped it out. He should not have had this part made available to him by by Chrysler.

I here everyone, but I would never ask a stranger to do something like switching a lense for a day. As for the dealer being at fault, the dealer is in NJ where it's legal. Thats why the previous owner got away with it. Some states only require one back up light. P.S. I've not run across another Crossfire in the whole city of Philadelphia. Trying another inspection station is a good idea. However, must stations charge whether you past or fail. They "will" check the backup lights. Whether or not they know the PA law is another thing. The previous one did not charge me out of a courtesy.
