Default Spoiler

I have never really questioned this as it always happened from new, when driving the spoiler goes up and goes down smoothly, but when I put it down after washing the car it goes down in six stages and you have to keep the button depressed, it goes up in one smooth action and you do not have to keep your finger on the button.
Is this normal or should it go down smoothly without stopping and starting? The more I think about it the more it seems odd.
I searched but either missed the article or none exist. Meanwhile I will search again.

Yeah its normal, I just read the owners manual. I should read it some time, but what the heck, I never read instructions or manuals so why start now. I like living on the edge.
I still wonder why though.

It's to let your friend who's drying off your car know to get his fingers out of harms way. The spoilers coming down and that your seating down doing nothing but playing with rocker switches. Squirrel Crusher

It gives you the option of what position you want it in when you run it manually. Down just a little, down half way, three quarters......... maybe the engineer was bored when it was designing the circuit. Or he just wanted to tick you off and make you hold the switch down!

It goes down in stages so you can set how high you want it to stay. As you press the down button the spoiler stops in each stage... when you are happy with the angle of the spoiler quickly hit the up botton and it will stop moving. It will stay at that level.

When you hit 68MPH the spoiler will go all the way up and stay there. Or you can turn the car off and the spoiler will drop back down after you start the car back up.

There are many little things about this car that I learn each day (for the past 4 years). This is one of the features I learned from the very beginning.

Huh, never gave the stages thing much thought...now I'm heading to the garage to fool around with this again.

From the manual;

The spoiler can also be deployed at lower speeds using
an override switch mounted in the center console.
Once manually deployed, the spoiler will only retract by
pressing the bottom of the spoiler switch. The spoiler will
then retract in steps as long as the switch is depressed. If
the switch is depressed until the spoiler is fully retracted,
a short beep will be heard, and automatic control will be
reestablished.

I read on this forum that the spoiler steps as a safety feature to help keep fingers from getting smashed. Myabe. Maybe not.
