Angry Blown Valve Cover Gasket?

My car has been sitting for about a month. I moved it Wednesday to get another car out and noticed a pretty distinct smell. I did not have time to investigate, and thought nothing of it. My mother drove the car on some errands and the smell came back. She took it to an oil change place and they said the valve cover gasket looked bad. I looked at it when I got back into town and the front of the driver side head is covered in burned oil and there is some splatter on the engine cover.

Is this common? The car has sat for a month, and I did not notice the smell when it was parked.

Front driver side???? I'd take a close look at the seal/ o ring around the top of the oil filter housing. If it didn't get replaced at the last oil change it can be a source of sudden oil leak.

Both my n/a engines weep oil from the driver's side, front valve cover gasket. Tightened the roadster covers again, and it seems to have stopped. The 2007 goes to the dealer in the spring for a warranty fix. So -- YES -- it is common.

Yeah. Same thing happened to my cousin last January. At first we're having a hard time locating the main problem though it appears that it's just the cover.

Had it on both on my 2007 -- Coupe and 2005 -- Roadster. I have not seen this on the forum but perhaps this should be a timed replacement like air filters. Some will say if it is not broke; don't fix it. I have noted two distinct symptoms on my cars. One is the leak and the other is the smell. I found the leak when it was just seep and not a leak. I found the smell when it had gone to a leak. I guess you could get a combo of the two. Many people do not look under the lid often enough.

My head gasket is gone on the view cover on my head.... Just a bit of seepage but nothing substantial, it's on my to-do list along with a 50/50 simple green cleaning of the engine.

Yup. Happened to mine and got it fixed from the dealership. You should read what I've gone through to get it repaired. Incompetency run amok. Common, indeed.
