I Love my Crossfire but, having owned 2 Vettes, unless your running one of the "Dog" Vettes (Carberated 307 - 350 engine) from the late 70s and early 80s, a Crossfire will not beat a Vette.... Unless of course, he has no idea he's in a race or the Vette is missing a couple of plug wires

I mounted my Valentine 1 just above the dash in the center of the windsheild using the suction cup mount. I ran the power wire from the overhead light cluster, under the headliner, down the A-pillar under the plastic trim piece and along the groove below the windshield. It looks clean. The V1 has probably paid for itself by now.

Just so you know... there was one of the "speed warning" I guess you would call it signs in my town a week or two ago. The ones where you drive by and it tells you your mph, and the speed limit. Well I used it as an opportunity to test the radar detector. When I had the detector mounted in the center of the windshield a few inches above the dash, it detected the sign .2 - .3 miles later then when I mounted it right next to the rear view mirror. It also detected it about .2 miles longer in the rear when I went by. Just something for you to consider.

Also, what wire did you use to attach the power wire to? Can you explain how you did this. I have the hardwire kit that came with the V1.

I realize the tradeoffs to a lower mounting - the higher the better. But, I didn't like the looks of it next to the rearview mirror so I gave up some alert distance for aesthetics. That's a good idea testing with a fixed radar gun. I'll check that out.

As far as the wiring goes, I don't remember the exact wire I connected to but it was the power to the Homelink module - only on when the key is on. I believe the wire was pink. I'll look at my shop manual and see if I can verify that. I took lots of photos of the stereo/soundproofing installation but couldn't find one of the V1 install.

So... who was wrong there? The old fudy dud for going too slow or you for exceeding the speed limit? I'd opt for the guy going slow no matter how frustrating it is than someone driving faster than conditions warrant.

Also, please don't play "boy racer" and put punk EAT ME stickers on a Xfire. I'd like to think the folks that can afford to own and drive a XFire are a tad smarter than alot of the trash out there.

Before you slam me for MY opinion, consider this... four days a week I drive an 18 wheeler 350 miles between Phoenix and Globe, Arizona hauling copper making two round trips on US60. Half of that is two lane mountain roads. I wish I had $1.00 for every "idiot" who was in too big of a hurry and passed me illegally putting myself and others in harms way. I've seen too many "needless" accidents to see any "humor" or "cool" in your story.

Do us all a favor... find a place to play were you won't be a hazard to anyone but yourself!!!

Case closed... have a great day!!!
I thought it was a great story.

I've only had my car for about a month and the only "excitement" I've experienced thus far are a couple of old ladies checking out the car as I drove by. Old people just LOVE these cars---no offense to any older folk on this board!

I got the crossfire wave from one of the women as her husband drove by in a white XF.

Default Top Tip:

Crossfire drivers: paint the words “Too Fast” upside down and backwards on your spoiler. Hey presto! An instant reminder from your car to slow down to a more sedate speed when you see the words in your rear view mirror.

Came up to a light where I was in the left hand turn lane with one car in front of me. Being that it was a nice night out I decided to put the windows down. As I did I was greeted with a LOUD BRRRRAAAA! coming from the 5" tail pipe of the SRT4 in front of me. Once the light changed I changed lanes so that I could get around the noisy 4. As soon as I signaled to go around him the SRT4 nailed it. So I nailed it got around him and slowed once I got to 65 in a 55 zone. He the blasted past me and his girlfriend was hanging out of the window with her tongue sticking out. We met at the next light and he took off again so I dusted him again. After I beat him and he was about to go by me again I gave him a thumbs down. His GF was pissed!

Smokey burnout pics or a pic of you in a full counterlock slide would be most welcome!
