DUAL TURBO N/A with SIX SPEED
Hello all
Gonna say upfront if your first thought is negative about this post, you’re the members this post is about...
Ok I live in Fl, and was driving through Atlanta Ga. couple of weeks ago and saw another N/A Limited at a gas station. I went over and started talking to the guy cause I really like his rims and wanted to find out what kind there were . So I talking to the guy (Steve) and ask him what other Mods he done. Well he kinda smiled and said he had pulled the engine and replaced it with the engine from a SRT. But the S/C on the engine was bad when he bought it, so he replaces the S/C with dual turbo. I gave him the your joking look and he pop the hood, low and behold there is two turbo tuck in there. I ask him if they are just for show like the ones we seen at car shows. And said no and stated explaining all the work he had to do to get it to work. Sorry I not a big mod guy so he lost me after about minute. He talk about ceramic coating the metal plate he made for were the S/C was and changing the flywheel and something else to due with mating up the SRT engine to the 6 speed tranny and handling the extra torque . I remember asking about the ECU if he reprogram or used the one from the SRT. Said he tried both, can’t remember if the tune on the N/A would not work or the other way around sorry. Anyway found out we were going the same way so he took me for a ride to the next rests stop with my friend following us. Ok onramp no turbo lag car shot out like a bullet, sorry no dead start to tell about. And the ride to the rest stop was fastest I ever been in a crossfire N/A or SRT. I have gotten to about 120mph in my N/A and the car was still gaining speed but slowly. This car we hit 120mph in a quarter of the time and were still going strong till we tagged the speedo and he still had about 750 rpm to read line.
Ok here the reason for the opening. We get to the rest stop me and Steve are chatting and I mention that I can’t wait to tell you guys on the forum. Steve stop talk and give me a look like I kicked his dog. Ask which forum, I tell him he starts to walk off. He come back and says he sorry and I seem like a nice guy but our forum can eat sh#t. He start telling me about joining of forum, asking some question and the way the member treated him and other members that are not the chosen few. Said he belong to a couple other forum and our is the meanest and rudest forum he ever seen. OK at this point I trying to defend the forum, but he keeps bring up some good points. As following
Search is useless: you can’t use search because members do not stick to the point of the original post. A search on Turbo brings up more then 500 hits and I gonna say maybe 35 have to do with putting a turbo on our cars. The rest are on post that some member wants to say turbo s*ck and the thread was about brake pad. But some member want to tell people who are looking for info on the best brake pad that he think turbo s*ck for some reason.
Forum is to help each other: stop posting how stupid the question is, how much badder the SRT are. (sorry there are member who can tell by the header of the thread that it about a N/A crossfire mod and they feel the should respond by telling us we should have bought a SRT and we will never be a good as them), stop posting “use search option” (See Above) and Stick to the subject (Case in point there is a post about eurocharged turbo SRT. Most of the replies have nothing to do with the original post. Member was at the track and saw the car and was like this is kinda cool gonna post it to the forum. And what happen the members go off on all direction bad mouthing the car, the builders and other members. Or just post reply saying read this and see how smart I am and how stupid the other poster are. Some how a post about a cool car with someone trying something new turns into the rule and regulation for drag racing and the 0-60 times of other cars.
Answer a Simple question with a simple answer: If a member ask something like what the widest tire someone has but on their car with out it rubbing. Just tell them what you done or another member has done. Don’t tell the to use the tire fit tool in the sticking section or go to discount tire. Like most other members we are looking for what other people have tried and what works.
Posting Mods with no info: Stop posting threads and pictures Mods you done to your car unless you are willing to share were you got it , what parts you use to make it and how much it cost you. Like CAI/ CAI are big on this forum, member recommend TVT& Needswing a lot when asked. But there are member who don’t want to pay the price or want to make there own. So they ask hey were you getting that or what brand and part # did you use to make that CAI. And suddenly the member that was talking about the great CAI they built can’t type a response anymore
I like this forum, but have to admit don’t think I will post a question to it. Because most member will not help or just post something pointless or mean. I normally send a private message to member that has shown a willingness to help in other posts. And I thank them for all the help they have given me.
But here a case were a guy has done what said could not be done and is willing to do it for $2000.00, a donor motor, parts and my word not to tell the forum who or were it was done. So basically if I want to do this I can’t tell you because the way we treated him.

IMPOSSIBLE!! TUROBSE AS WELL AS CROSSFIRES ARE MAGICKAL CREATURES THAT CANNOT BE ALTERED!!1! Why don't you just buy an srt6?!
Everybody knows that the NA guys just want to be the SRT guys anyway, and you don't need a manual.. you'll get used to the auto. Plus you get a fuzzy black interior with a huge wing, and some flat spokey wheels.. who likes having choices anyway?
I agree with what you're saying, this forum is useless for certain applications.. But check out vwvortex lol.
I think there are alot of NA guys that just want more power while keeping their car the way it is. I would like to know what parameters can be changed using the initial tuning software (starscan, DAS, whatever it is). If we can change from mass air to speed density we're pretty much set. If not, it has been mentioned that part of the PCM of the SRT can be transplanted into the NA's which would essentially accomplish the MAF to MAP conversion. Otherwise the AEM FIC-6 piggyback may work, as the FIC-8 worked on a v8 CLK. If all else fails, standalone will work its just expensive. The next step is to find the weakest links, which I can help anyone with a turbo out with

I am relatively new here. I also belong to a forum on my Tiger. Not much difference from what I see. Yes, posts get sidetracked. Yes, people get too sensative about the banter. Yes, you may not get a perfect answer to your question.
The fun and feedback on a forum is, nonetheless, the comraderie of the marque, the discussion, the joy in seeing others likewise interested in the subject, and an overall learning curve. The intro page lists over 1200 active members on this forum. That's over 1200 different opinions and personalities.
The threads are vibrant and fun. I do not take any insult or slight in a recent thread I started on a grandmotherly older woman complimenting my car turning into a thread on valet parking attendants. The new track was fun and interesting, and piqued the curiosity and writing of two dozen members as opposed to seven. That's a good thing.
So, returning to this post, if the suggestions are followed the average post will have zero-three replies. This post itself went off the posted topic in its own body (or the topic should have been 'The Forum' and not the turbo). So what.
Oledoc and I got into a bit of a tiff on another thread. I hope he didn't take offense--he didn't seem to. I know I didn't. Vive la difference. If a forum doesn't discuss, or if all must agree, then go read a technical article (or take an Ambien). If you have to see thirty threads and read forty-five posts before you get an answer, enjoy the journey.
I hope few of you will take the suggestions to heart and will continue to post and stake out positions and perspectives with ardor and conviction. We are all wealthier through the exchange. If you feel slighted by someone's response, argue back with logic or suck it up. Don't go away mad, and please, don't go away. If it really gets under your skin, chalk it up to a bad neighbor The answer to Rodney King's question is actually, "No," but that doesn't mean don't try to get along and work and play well with others. Simply, chill, have fun, and remember, vive la difference.

I wish I could find the thread now, but someone a week or so ago posted a thread as UGLY AS SIN and I simply replied - I love this forum, but the hate/fear of anything different gets old. I meant this statement. I have only been here a little over a year and I know exactly what you are saying in this regard.
As far as getting off topic, that is the fun part of actually knowing the other people who are connected to that box in front of you. I like every member I have gotten to know over various GTGs and I do not think I would be signed up for at least 5 GTGs this year alone with these people if everyone was an A-hole.
It's too bad your new friend is so close minded that a few jack a$$es made him hate a group of tens of thousands, some of us are nice... and want turbo's

After you spend the $2k and have what could be the fastest Crossfire out there (other than the one with the V8 55SLK engine in Bahrain), please tell us how you did it. Your comments are for the most part accurate...we do have some airholes on the forum...but I've seen much the same on most forums. So, come back with pictures and specs when it's done. BTW, a K04 upgrade kit for my A6 2.7T (K03s are stock) is about $3500 plus $1-2k labor. So, $2k sounds kind of cheap for all the work. Plus, he had to get an SRT6 engine which is built heavier duty than the n/a engine. Adding it all up, it's a lot more than $2k. Caveat emptor.

Yeah, some of us (not me of course!
) can get a little testy at times (MR Photoman) but as mentioned we a assorted group with at least one thing in common, the Crossfire.
I myself would LOVE to hear how this was done. Congrats to whomever it was! Good job!

Turbo- $599 for a new precision turbo, less for a used one.
Oil lines/ fittings- $200-300 AN lines aren't cheap, even for pushlocks
Manifold, piping, flanges- probably could be pulled off for $300-500, a single turbo should fit somewhere behind the motor, or could be rear mounted to save the expense and space limitations of turbo manifolds. The exhaust needs to bolt to the hot side and the turbine will need to feed the intake manifold with aluminum tubing which should be TIG welded. Remember, the turbo's housings can be clocked to keep everything orientated properly... the can be mounted pretty much anywhere. The further back it is, the more expensive this aspect gets (as well as oil lines).
Electronics/ tuning- AEM's FIC-6 is $400-??? or so, and can be tuned with a laptop. It may be difficult to develop a baseline tune, but it can be done with some math. I'm sure $400 is a very very low estimate, as this seems to be the most difficult part of the swap. As I mentioned, if the ECU can be converted to speed density that should solve that, but I have no idea what parameters are adjustable.
Intercooler- $400-600 for a decent one, a crap IC is like a cork in the system.
Silicone Couplings- <$100 or so, assuming a minimal amount of straight couplers are used, bends are expensive.
Total- $2000-2400+ for parts alone.
That will pretty much get a basic turbo system... There are definately more expenses that my list contains, but I'm just giving a basic breakdown of a basic turbo system.

Meh, the guy with the tt crossfire has pretty thin skin IMO. Most internet forums, unless they are over-moderated, have a pretty aggressive tone to them in my experience. With enough experience in any forum you know which posters are worth paying attention to and which are take with a grain of salt.

I must admit, I am much older than most of you guys on the forum, that may be the reason I do not understand why anyone with a SRT would want more speed and power, than you must have now.
I just have a STOCK '05 limited, 6 speed, and it is without a doubt, the fastest car I ever owend,(showing age at this point).
During the 70's when most car companys were going for speed and the largest horsepower engine they could put in a car,@muscle car years, I was busy raising a family and trying my best to keep them warm, fed, and in a nice house. I would just drool over the Super Bee's Chargers, Vets, and Shelby GT's when I saw one. I could not afford a super charger or even the hood it was under at that time.
That is why my final statement on this post,( I am trying not to sound negative here), but how fast do you guys want to go?
I have had my 05 up to 120 and just about chit in my pants, had to slow it down real fast, I would not want to drive a Crossfire much faster than that

Well, if the guy pulled off the build with everything that needed to be done, then I wouldn't have thought he would have had that thin of skin...but, that's how it goes. We can't all make each other happy all the time. Vegas, we don't have nor have we ever had a problem...lol...done forgot about whatever we debated on...lol...look at my age, it will only last a week, and I forget.....now, I have to look at every rest area for this illusive CAR....

I agree with you that the basic Crossfire with a 6-speed is really all you need to have fun. I felt the same way when I owned my VW GTI with 200hp. Most people feel that it;s necessary to software tune those cars to get them to at least 230 hp. Not me. I do think that the biggest weakness of the NA cars is the comparatively weak motor. While not dog slow and perfectly adequate, the NA could use another 40-60hp. If Mercedes used their 3.5L V6 to give around 265-270hp, I'd be even more satisifed with what the NA XF is bringing to the table.
I also have another car that I also do track days with. It has a better power:weight ratio and has been setup to drive and stop quickly for a day of high speed driving. So for me, I have another outlet if I feel that need for speed!
Big Al....modding cars is just a hobby....a challenge if you will...nothing more....If I wanted to spend the real bucks to go fast...I would sink the $$$$$ in a ZR-1....but, that is just too easy, and too much $$$$$$. Anyway, that is what this forum is all about for the most part....making all XF perform better...whether maintenance or speed...you can find it out here, once you get by all the BS....
The OP"s freind truly must have thin skin to be so easily offended by and disuaded from partaking in this forum. ( You should see the Trolls that inhabit 2 other forums that I belong to! truly loathsome and hideous!
Indeed the only thing that separates Humans from the rest of the animals on our lovely planet is Our ability to share Knoledge. and that means that sometimes We hear opinions that We don't agree with. (or in the case of many trolls, never wanted to even Know about.)
If the OP is indeed genuine. and His new found friend might be so inclined. Many of us non troll like creatures here at crossfireforum.org would like to share Ideas and hear both of their points of view!
Now I know that damage has been done, and even 3 of the responses in this very thread may be exactly what the Op's friend found to be offenssive( even I have been attacked here for very minor infractions!) I would certainly hope that when tempers cool that This knowledge may be shared with the rest of the crossfire community. While the fate of the Human race probably does not depend on the sharing of tec specs of twin turbo crossfires, some times the hopes and dreams of others ride on the coattails of the people who went before
As this current personna of crossfireforum enters its death spiral,(as crossfireforum.net did before) all things in life must change. it is the law of time. I am certain that CICCI will not be the only and final chapter for the wonderful car that WE all love. Its just to good and beautiful of an automobile. Hopefully everyone will find a home and a situation to be able to participate in this cars future!
Damn that got kinda long winded and sappy.
im on a number of forums. if he thinks this forum is rude he better stay away from the amg black series forums!! the e55 crowd is ruthless with the newbies and tagalongs.
