What is this hook? Is it part of the boot set?
When I bought my car, the dealer went to great lengths showing me that everything was present - all the original tools and kit. He gave me this hook and I never bothered to ask but - is it a part of the Xfire boot set of 'stuff' - as it seems a little random.. keyring for perspective.
i have never seen one affiliated with a crossfire - perhaps you remove the lower front grill and it screws in as a tow hook?
It is used for towing your car when straping it down, or for a flat bed tower to hook on to the front end and pull it, there is a spot it goes in behind your lower passenger grille, look in your owners manual.

The eye bolt in the picture is way too small, if that was screwed into the frame and an attempt was made to tow the car it would bend and break.
Front tow hook
Front lower left grille latch
Grille with multi-tool in position to release it, as you can see the multi-tool does not go in straight, more like 45 degrees.
With the multi-tool in position it is levered to the left to unclip the latch. When the tool goes under the latch there is no stop so insert the tool 4" and it will be enough. The right hand side of the grille is held in with two fixed lips which insert in two holes in the bumper cover. The grille is inserted by locating the fixed latches and swinging the grille into the latched position. Make sure you hear the grille click into position properly, pressing in the center helped mine fit or you will be looking for a spare.
I never knew how this grille came out exactly and now I know. You should try it some time to avoid panic one day, leaving it to the tow truck driver to wrench out .... ouch.
A screw driver with similar dimensions would do as well.
PS
The car needs a wash as you can see, but as it's black I only wash it 3-4 times a year, whats the point. It has not been washed this year yet, maybe when its warmer.

^^ wow! Thanks for that! I will quit being lazy and read the manual to brush up on it all. Thanks again!
I cannot find a specific place for the hook to lay at rest. Everythiung in the boot compartment seems to have a place but the hook must just have to slot in anywhere I guess.
Cheers!

Sorry did not realize the hook was already installed on our cars, when I used to work on Saabs they had a simular type hook and yes it was a full circle type loop that did screw into the frame trough the bumper so yes I ASSumed thats what it was.
