Default Crossfire Water Pump Noisey

Hi, Can anybody help me. I have a 2005 Crossfire with a metallic noise coming from the engine which sounds like a heatshield vibrating but its not that. Took it to my local garage today and he thinks its a noisey Water Pump. The car has only done 26000 Miles. Is this possible at this Mileage?
There is no problem with overheating, Is it still ok to drive short term until its sorted? Can anyone tell me the cheapest place to get a new one ?
Will an SLK 320 FIT ? Thanks very much in anticipation of help. Cheers Mike.

My steeering gear/box is being replaced this week and my 2006 has only 16k miles so trust me, anything is possible.

To see if it's the water pump, take off the serpentine belt when the engine is cold. The t-stat does not open for the first minute or so any way. Start and run engine. If the noise stops, then it could be the pump or another pulley, but you now know where to look. The pump on partsgeek.com is $131.75 and that was the first place I looked. I have bought from them before and you can get another 10% off by just asking---I have done it. Good luck Jimmy
