Default Hitting the Rev-Limiter

I drove a Beretta GTZ for 10 + years & several times hit the rev-limiter.....strange feeling.....EVERYTHING shuts down till the RPMs drop back down below the limit.....

Has anyone ever hit the limiter in the 6spd XF? (I haven't.....yet).

I've hit it several times, once in 4th gear running with valkryderguy (Gary) in NC checking out some new roads. The other times were on the track when it was little more difficult to "watch" the tac when you are watching those around you and trying to get "up to speed" in a hurry. And this is after the tune and raising the limit. It definitely gets your attention the first time!!

I hit it at Gateway raceway this summer at CAA, It is a strange feeling - first thought is what broke.

I've hit it a couple of times in second hoofing it past someone and forgetting I don't have 7000 rpm any more Apparently it shows on fault codes according to my garage?

Heh ALL the time. This car revs much quicker then my old Cabrio, and I guess I'm just conditioned to wait longer. I constantly wish the RPM gauge was larger..

Are you saying Chrysler will be able to tell how many times you hit the limiter.....wonder if they would try to dispute a Lifetime Power-train Warranty Claim down the road based upon that data????//

They really can't as that is what protects the engine so they can give it a warranty.

Unless they notice that you had it changed.

If you are worried about your warranty, don't mess with the engine.

I have bumper to bumper because of all the stuff unique to the Crossfire. The engine is not unique.

I know I won't be experimenting with any water-injection, (Sorry Franc I had to mention that), & as I'm looking at a thermometer that's reading 103.6 F right now & the grass is turning brown....I won't be driving thru many puddles this week!!!

The only time I ever hit the rev-limiter, is when I'm racing Harleys.
For some reason Harley's riders are the only drivers that ever try me.
Since I almost always drive with my window down, (and I usually shift by ear), most every Harley is so un-gawdly loud, I can't hear my motor.
Every car I own has a factory tach, but sometimes I just forget to use it.

I've bounced off the limited on track a few times, but that was before I put the Magnaflow cat back on. Car was too dang quiet before that!

The redline on the tach appears to be 6000.......is that where the limiter is set from the factory?

Chris, I was told by the guys at Eurocharged that it depends on the tranny, Stick shift vrs auto. However the revelimiter on my six speed was set factory at 5740 RPM. This to allow for over spinning under heavy acceleration.
I think the autos are set at 5800.

Mine is now set gears one, two three at 6300. I am almost never there holding at 6000.
Gears four, five, and six, are set at 5800 RPM's

These engines are good to 6800 easy. The worst you should get at those RPM's is valve float, which should do nothing as it isn't an interference engine.

Of course, I have had an unexplained issue which could be related to high RPM's. However I have had several V6 engines, non Mercedes, that regularly hovered around 7,000 RPMs and had no problems.

Just my two cents.

That just the crank. Imagine the speed of the SC!

These are tough engines.

I have hit 6,000 quite often in first as it is so easy. I have hit it in second a few times. Mine is a MT, hitting 6,000 in fifth would be like hitting a snow drift you would really feel it then. It is not 5,400 or so it's definitely 6,000.

I hit mine a few times when it's wet and once when I was on the dyno. The dyno one I was not really ready for haha. It started hopping and shut down at 4 gear wide open that is a heck of a ride.

I autocross an 04 6 speed about every other weekend. Depending on the course layout, I would say I hit the rev-limiter about every other event. I also have a GTech Road Racer computer, and view the data after every race. For both first and second gear, the limiter kicks in at about 6150. This is a bone-stock XFire, with no mods. There are no issues, other than fuel being cut in a choppy manner about 4 times per second until the RPMs are reduced, or you up shift. Tough car. I work it pretty hard, and it has responded well. Lots of folks want to get a close look at our car, after seeing it race.

Franc....mine, bone stock was around 6100 or 6200. It happens pretty quick at that RPM but it was surely WAY ABOVE 5470. It's now at approx. 6350 in all gears (up through 4th anyway....haven't hit it in 5th or 6th). I can only assume that it would be the same since RPM is RPM, no matter what gear you are in (engine RPM).
