Hitting the Rev-Limiter

I can only assume that it would be the same since RPM is RPM, no matter what gear you are in (engine RPM).
Me too, coming home from my daily visit to the casino I just ran 3rd gear right up to the redline.....no cut-off. Stock limiter setting must be higher??

Frankly running up thru the gears the engine would likely pass the 5740 rpm limiter and reach 6100. It would stay there because of the vehicle's inertia unless you actually hit the limiter, shutting the engine down.
It is a weird and scary feeling when that happens. For sure

When I hit the rev limiter in 1st and then try to shift into 2nd, 90% of the time I get that disgusting grinding noise............
1st gear is over pretty damn fast in this car. I think they could have made it "longer"...

Try shifting using that in the depressed position.
If you time it right, should be a bit quieter.

Larry, I found this out when driving firetrucks. Stephens were the worst. Most of them have lousy synchros and I always seemed to lose track of where a gear or two was when driving the big rigs thru traffic.
Grind grind, it is a wonder we had a working rig when I got to the scene.
Then I found that pedal.
WOW!

Franc, The only manual firetruck i've driven was a 60's something ford. If you did not do it right or missed a gear you had to stop and start all over.

I think the autos are set at 5800.
Mine is now set gears one, two three at 6300. I am almost never there holding at 6000.
Gears four, five, and six, are set at 5800 RPM's
These engines are good to 6800 easy. The worst you should get at those RPM's is valve float, which should do nothing as it isn't an interference engine.
Of course, I have had an unexplained issue which could be related to high RPM's. However I have had several V6 engines, non Mercedes, that regularly hovered around 7,000 RPMs and had no problems.
Just my two cents.

I'm from leather helmets, standing on the fantail holding on for life as you put on your flammable bunker gear.
We carried two MSA paks on the truck but only the wimpy guys wore them.
Dem was the good ole days.
You new guys are spoiled.

Doesn't it up shift when you click right?
My SRT shifts up when I click right and let the throttle up slightly.

Do you mean your automatic was in 3rd ....hitting the rev-limiter....and it wouldn't shift to 4th on it's own?
I thought I read on this forum that if you click left from a stop....stomp on it .....that even if you didn't slap to the right....that the automatics would go ahead and shift at redline???

Yest if you shift the auto manually it will change gears on its own at redline. I cant shift manually because I have the operate mine NOS buttons so I do my passes at full automatic. At 90s, I'm in 4th gear already and I hit the rev limiter 5 or 6 sec before the finish line. So I stop giving the car gas and NOS then punch it at the end again. Hope it makes sense now.

Yea I'm talking blue and in your garage, a shameful waste, the Viper gods have lighting bolts in their hands waiting to throw them at you in your little white coupe.
