What is this called and can it be replaced?
Is this your car, or one you are looking at to replace your vandalized one? Looks that it has been in a collision of some sort with a poor job of repair.
yeah the owner said someone backed up into him but he never got it replaced. So he was going to take that out of the price of the car. Just curious how much it would cost to get replaced.

For the crossmember to be bent like that, there was some significant damage done to the car. Since the crossmember was not replaced during the repair, you can be assured that the repairs were not done through an insurance claim. If the owner is going to skimp on this, what else did he skimp on during the repair that is not readily visible? If it were me, I would walk away from this car..... Quickly!
I gotta tell you, that crossmember sits quite high off the ground. I can't imagine a regular passenger car backing into that Crossfire and doing damage that high up. Lets talk truck here.
I just finished painting mine. I was gonna remove it but after messing with it for an hour I decided not to, it's a PIA so I spent a day taping it. I'm also gonna do the piece that sits under the wipers that tends discolor over time so it matches that cross member.

He was going to sell it for 6k. I wasnt aware of the radiator support being damaged like that until he sent me pics. I havent seen the car yet, but something doesnt add up.
First off get a car fax and I would also get an estimate to fix it all correctly from a body shop. Add the cost repair properly to the selling price and if you are still buying it for a little less than rough trade per NADA it would be a good deal. You can find the value on NADA.com
If the cost to fix plus the price of the car is equal to clean trade in then skip this car and buy one with a clean car fax. If the car fax show the damage it is worth even less.
