Default Some Crossfire Pics and celebrities... found a link.

This may be old news... but I stumbled on this link. Looks like some forum members on here.... I have seen the pictures before. But there are some pics of celebrities I have never seen. I didn't know Jessica Simpson had an SRT... or took pictures in one.

If my memory is correct, didn't Hulk Hogan's son have one? I remember seeing pics of him sitting inside a crossfire.

On a side note.... I never gave this much thought before. Started to wonder why the SRT has a fixed wing. I always thought it was for looks and somethint to set the car apart.

The article says that the spoiler takes 5 seconds to fully deploy. I never really timed it before but 5 seconds to a car that fast is a long time. The SRT is so fast that once it hits 65MPH and the spoiler starts to deploy.... the car could already be up in the 130's or higher before the spoiler is in position. At that point it is too late because the car needs the spoiler to keep the back down at high speeds.

Pac Man Jones had one too. It was sold at the dealership I bought my first SRT-6.

So you think the SRT can go from 65 to 130 mph in 5 seconds, think again.

you don't think so....lol.....0-115 in 12 seconds...devide that in half 0-55 in 6 seconds give or take....55-115 in 6 more seconds...give or take...yep, you are right...lol...65-130 might take 7 seconds...and these are all hypothetical...lol

If it were a problem, couldn't the MB engineers just deploy it sooner on the SRT

I think it likely had more to do with marketing a significantly different car to a significantly different buyer.

But then I'm a salesman by trade and my perspective is clearly slanted.

We could ask the "Creator" who could give us a better skinny on it that we could speculate.

Eric, What say you?

roadster with a stick

BTW, the article is wrong. It doesn't take five seconds. More like three.

Actually you are correct. My crossfire spoiler goes up just over 65mph. I have done 65 and it never went up. If I go faster than 65 it will go up.

Now if the srt is taking off like a rocket from a complete stop, then it would probably waste a few seconds before the spoiler starts to deploy. It may trigger once you go over 65MPH but you may be at 70 or higher before it actually starts to go up (due to an electronic communication lag combined with the high rate of momentum of the vehicle).

Assuming that the times are correct on the 0-100 MPH and the amount of time it takes for the spoiler to completely raise up. I bet it was very close in the eyes of the crossfire engineers... so they decided to put a fixed spoiler on the SRT and make the car unique. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

Of course I am exagerating with the 130. I am assuming the engineers prefer the spoiler at speeds of 90+. Even though the car may not need the spoiler at 90MPH I bet the engineers prefer it for safety and lawsuit purposes.

I am willing to bet if you put a electronic spoiler on an SRT you would see what I am talking about. I bet you can get the car above 100MPH before that spoiler is completely deployed.

Or they could speed up the spoiler to make it deploy faster. There are many super cars that have a pop up spoiler and they can make it work. Bugatti is the perfect example.

I always felt 65MPH was too early for the spoiler to depoly. I think Porsche has theirs pop up at 70MPH (or higher).

My spoiler deploys at 58mph every time.

Let's have some real figures, still hypothetical though.
0 to 115 mph in 12 seconds is an acceleration rate of 14 ft/sec.sec.
0 to 65 mph takes 6.80 secs.
65 to 130 mph takes 6.80 secs. (pretty good doc)

To do 65 to 130 in 5 secs requires an average acceleration of 19 ft/sec.sec.
At that rate the hypothetical 1/4 mile time would take 10 secs.
The speed at the 1/4 mile would be 130 mph of course.

14 feet per second?
srt 0-65 time in 6.8 secs?
2004 Chrysler Crossfire 0-60 mph: 6.4 seconds
2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 0-60 mph: 5.2 seconds

I just used the average rate of acceleration to get that figure. It works to get the 115 mph figure in 12 secs.
Obviously the acceleration rate is higher to start and gets lower as speed increases. So the 0 to 60 mph time would be lower and the 60 to 115 mph time would be higher.
I was just working toward disproving the 65 to 130 mph in 5 secs.

That 130 MPH I threw out was off the top of my head. No calculations! Just an exaggeration and I was trying to make a point.

These are the figures I found online for the SRT. They may be on the high side (as they usually are). I am willing to bet that by the time the car hits 100MPH the spoiler wouldn't be fully deployed. I thought I read somewhere that the non-SRT will beep a warning if you hit 90 and the spoiler is down.

0 - 60 mph~5.2 seconds0 - 100 mph~12.0 seconds0 - 1/4 mile~13.5 seconds

I thought the magic number was 68mph. It's been a long time since I've owned a limited though.

Jay Leno Gets Lithium I-Cell Chrysler Crossfire

It's easy to be resentful of Jay Leno's access to cutting-edge automotive crap. That guy's been at the front of more lines than Rick James (RIP, brothah), at least when it comes to car stuff. This time, he got the first lithium I-Cell powered sports car, a Chrysler Crossfire fitted with new an EV system created by Hybrid Technologies. The retrofitted Chrysler roadster R-Car can hit 100 mph at a range of 100 miles to a charge. It's the first of several EVs Hybrid Technologies is working on, including a PT Cruiser.

Actually, I think you are right. I don't drive my car as often as I did.... but I do remember everyone saying it was 65 but it always seemed closer to 70 MPH to me.

On my '04, it will not deploy until about 65 or so. On my '06, it deploys right around 61.

Coupes and roadster deployments are different. Ask MB why?
