Default Faster with traction off?

ok finally been able to do a bit of performance testing (weather now better)

Is it me or is the xfire significantly better with traction off (on the auto at least) even though when on the traction light does not show during a foot to the floor take off i'm sure its slowing me down.

With traction off there is no wheel slip just a faster take off with tighter gear changes, in fact it just seems better all round, the suprise is i thought if the traction took over the light must come on?

Maybe one of the guys who autocross can shed some light?

on a side issue is the 5 speed really the same 0 - 60 as the 6 speed like DC claim?

I've been saying this since the first time I autocrossed mine.... If you want the best throttle response turn off the Traction control. I never use it when I'm autocrossing. The light in the center of the speedometer tells you that the traction control is off or that inspite if the traction control you have lost traction.

As for the 0-60 times. I don't know what the 6 speed does but I did some testing with mine that's posted, I believe, in the "I'm getting mine chipped" thread. I don't remember off hand what the exact numbers were before the chip and K&N but I know that now my times are consistantly 5.3 seconds 0 - 57 mph (shift to second gear).

ok that makes sense, but sure if the traction is doing anything it should flash the traction light? the only time i get the traction light on is if i really overcook it otherwise its off.

But i'm sure its doing something without indicating its getting involved, perhaps limiting revs in certain gears, backing off power?

what he said... especially since getting chip'd, I notice a big difference in feel off the line with T/C off. I never had the light flash at me but once when I did a power slide around a right-hand turn on wet pavement and broke the back-end loose a bit (weeeeeeeee!), but it's obviously doing SOMETHING cuz the car is just plain faster with it off. I'm sure there's a techno explanation (maybe Jamikest knows :?: ).

now is the 7.1 for the auto that DC released the auto w/ traction control on? because that makes perfect sense that way... i do not see how they are getting 7.1 seconds for the auto w/ tc off... because I know personally that ive had it in low 6.0's and i used my gauges built into my pioneer display...

My guess it was with a driver that had the traction conrol on and just matted the pedal. Didn't bring the rpm up before launching the car.

From the feel of it, when you're holding the brake and bring up the R's that at right around 2,200 rpm the torque converter starts to link up. You get a much harder and quicker launch than just slamming the pedal to the floor after you release the brakes.

Oh yeah! With TC off you can brake torque it and burn rubber for quite a ways.

It probably just cuts some of the torque off somewhere in the transmission, probably at the torque converter.

The traction control light comes on when you lose traction, not when the car is actively altering your car's traction. The light comes on when you're not in control of the vehicle and there's nothing that traction control can do about it.

Yeah, the light is alerting you that the car is not maintaining traction and that you need to do something about it, like letting up off of the gas, or quit yanking the steering wheel.

Prior to having my Crossfire chipped I made some testing myself and here's what I gathered: Crossfire Auto 5 speed with K & N Filters :

OAT 57 degrees

( with ESP ) 0-60mph...7.94 sec.
( without ESP ) 0-60 mph...7.06 sec.

If Chrysler rated it at 7.1 without TC then the K&N filters delivered a gain of 0.94 sec.

I haven't tested it yet with the new chip

Cyril.... How are you launching the car?

Your numbers are way lower than what I got.

Are you power braking it before you launch it?

With it in 1st gear I held the brakes and brought the rpm up to around 2,400 rpm then let it go. I got 5.3 second to the shift into 3rd gear... About 57 mph. I launched it in 1st gear but let it shift it's self for consistancy.

Dave.... Have you done any timing tests?

You all need to just go buy an AutoLogic OBDII scan tool and have your laptops do ACTUAL tests. This stop-watch when it shifts at whatever time is not scientific, to say the least.
