Do I need to take off the whole MAF unit off the car to take the screen off or can I do it where it sits? Step by step pls.

 

I have a couple of them sitting in my living room (don't ask) and it looks like the coarse plastic screen is pressed in on top of the fine wire screen - it really doesn't look like you could pull it out without damaging it -

I will tell you that I had a bad experience with using one that had a slightly torqued (twisted) screen, and it actually caused the car to not run right... Probably caused the airflow over the MAF to be too turbulent.

Are you trying to permanently remove the screen?

I would honestly just leave it, you'd be lucky to see 1hp.. but more realistically you would lose power and drivability due to turbulant flow as mentioned.
