Radio static when i turn headlights on
any ideas what i need to do, i do have a factory chrysler am/fm cd player radio, should i replace which i dont want to do because i want to keep my car original but if i have to get a new radio what kind of radio.
If you have aftermarket HID headlights and want to keep the original radio, You're going to need to go back to the factory H7 headlight bulbs or find a better quality HID ballast.
If you have stock headlights and the radio only acts up when you turn on the headlights, then something is causing electrical interference. In the good old days, a static suppression gizmo could be placed on the coil wire to eliminate the problem, but there are six coils on these babies and no wires. You might want to try an store that installs custom auto sound systems (not a big box store) and they may have a suggestion. My guess is that replacing the stock radio may not eliminate the problem if something is causing electical interference. I assume with the engine off and radio on, it is perfectly clear? That's not a radio issue.

But I think he missed your post.
There is nothing in a halogen bulb that would make RF, unless you have a really bad/dirty connection and it's arcing. Given the type of sockets in our headlamps, I don't think that is likely. I wonder if you could put bypass caps on the Ballast or an RF choke on it's leads?
I mean, sure you COULD, but it probably would not be very effective.
When I got my Blaupunkt it actually made my grounding issues worse, so don't go running off to buy a new stereo. Mine are vehicle-related, though, since I can hear both my coils and especially my air injection pump loud and clear through the stereo.
If you've got HIDs, make sure the ballasts are secured firmly to a ground (bare metal), and try wrapping the ballasts in foil and putting ferrite rings (they're the goofy bulges in many computer cables - the kind you want will just pop off the cable and you can pop them back on) to your +/- ballast cables.
Chances are, though, you'll need higher-quality HID ballasts.
