Boiler is right, you need some contrast there otherwise its a black blob. Additionally, I know its winter but if you insist on having everything black don't forget your wheel wells. Nothing looks worse than a car with dirty wheel wells. Tire dressing is a must as well. Remember its not what we like its what you like.

I'm not completely feeling it. I don't like the OEM wheels painted black at all. I don't like the "crossfire" badging on the back. I don't like the chrome chrysler badges, front or rear. And I'm not sure I like the blacked out door handles and side strakes.

I think your car has some potential though. Do something about the badging. Lower the car. Get some good looking, aftermarket wheels.

My car is also black and I started out wanting to black out the whole thing, but stopped just short of doing that. Instead, I wanted to make things black that I thought should be black, leave things that I thought looked good being silver. So I have a black grille, black windshield surrounds, black chrysler badges, and I removed the "crossfire" lettering from the back. I did leave the wheels silver and the handles/side strakes silver.

I will be putting on an SRT6 front bumper in the spring. Beyond that, I'd like to lower it a touch and consider some different wheels that will likely be black or gunmetal--maybe with a silver lip. Not sure on that, as it's pretty far off right now.

The black handles, strakes, and winshield surround is all factory on my car. It was completely black stock. So i guess the only things i have blacked out is the grill, lights, and wheels.

I think ive decided for now im going to do the striker stripes, and possibly put pin stripes on the strakes to add alittle color. I wish someone made Pentastar emblems to replace the stock chrysler ones...to throw alittle throwback on it.

Pentastar, throwback??? The stock emblem is the throwback. It's from the 1920s.

i think you need to add the gloss black emblems to the center cap... the silver cap looks out of place with the black rims...

but... in coupe design.
roadstercentercap11-1.jpg

and a drop would really enhance the look... tire dressing and clean wheels wells will make a big difference too (winter makes it difficult).

If you could make me Pentastar Emblems in black and silver, id be all over those. I kinda like to keep the emblems Chrysler, but get rid of the ones on there now.

She looks great! You do need Andrew's emblems for the center cap. i don't see that SUV look others do. It's an optical delusion, guys. Must be that new 3D stuff.

I think it looks GREAT. I have a black coupe and have been contemplating getting my rims powder coated. I would prefer to get my hands on a set of the SRT-6 rims and have THEM powder coated black...buuuuuut. A little out of my price range at the moment.

Thanks for the post!

I'd love to get my stocks painted black as well... I really like the look you have going as it is similar to what I eventually want... I just have a long way to go!

This is exactly the reason I painted my tail lights this time around, much more work, but look at the matte finish on the tails above and look at these wetsanded 6-8 times with 6 coats of tinted clear

The reflection is as good in the tail lights as it is in the freshly buffed paint.

(and if you look closely, you can see the flat black strip I did around the outside edge)

Nice, I however was actually going for more of a matte finish on mine. They are going to so well with the rims I will be putting on next week... Ill update with a new pic then!

I think the car looks awesome exactly how it is right now! Mean and menacing. I'm also glad that car is here in WI. Perhaps we can meet up with the others this summer and go for a cruise.

Take care

I am not usually a fan of black rims at all. I think they look like spare tire rims, but yours look nice. I actually like the teal calipers - are you a Jags fan? I think what everyone is popping on in a negative way is the basic problem with every black car. It better be SUPER clean! I don't think your car looks like an AWD XF (even though that would be awesome - oh how we would handle then). I think that the lack of super black tires & wheel well are making the space not filled with rubber look huge & grey & dingy in comparison. So you grab a scrub brush & some tire shine & you will be money. Any time you start changing the car from stock people will have opinions. I think it looks neat & you seem to love it - that is what matters! Do what ever you want with it.

Well don't cut a sunroof in it, paint a mural on the side if it of an ugly woman, or cover it in so many stick on chrome bits that it looks like a dollar store disco ball (all you KY sleepover Dragon slayers know about that car). All of those things have been done to some poor unfortunate XF. Other than that I think you are good!!

I knew the calipers is one of them "personal" things. I like black/turquoise, as my Needswings CAI is coated in it as well...and i plan on doing striker stripes in turquoise as well.

Im still trying to debate if i want to do all the recesses on the wheels, or just a pin stripe around the outside. I have some time before itll get done as its still snowing around here so i cant take it to the place i get my vinals done yet. So i have alittle time to figure it out.
there is still snow on the ground, geez...drive yours and keep the crap off of black...looks good kid....make it your own, it will still turn heads...

Thumbs up Re: Blacked-out Coupe.

I give it a thumbs up. I like it. Has a badass look to it.

Black-outs and black wheels aren't anything I'd do to my cars. Guess it has something to do with being middle aged having grown up in the age of chrome and "mag wheels". Six months ago my daughter told me she had ordered a set of black rims for her 2nd gen RX-7 and I groaned a bit, suggesting she look at some rims that were black with some chrome in the dish to give them some depth. She looked at me and said, "yeah, that might be nice" and ordered the all black ones. KIDS! Well, they've been on her car a while now and they've really grown on me. I watch her drive away and think that the car looks nice with black wheels. Makes the car stand out from the ones with shiny chrome wheels. I guess it IS possible to teach an old dog new tricks - or new styles anyway.

I had the same initial thought when I saw your pictures. Sorta an emotional first impression that I didn't like it. Then after looking a little longer I found myself thinking the car looks very nice. Kinda gives it that mean/serious/fast look. Same goes for your caliper paint. I like the standards - yellow or red (did mine red) but I like the little flash of "zing" it gives your car. Makes her "yours", not "everyone elses" and I think that's cool.

Thanks for sharing your photos and keep us up to date on any tweeks you may make to the look. Yeah, I'm getting sick of winter too. I wash my car and get her looking awesome, and the next day the weather turns to crap and she's dirty again!

While this doesn't apply to your car - I absolutely love Kim's comment about personalization gone wild making a car look like a dollar store disco ball. Yeeeeeahhh! Takes me right back to the days of rainbow tape! Anyone remember THAT stuff and the hedious things people did to their cars with it!!?? Ok, I admit I did have a little on my '68 Chevelle but....

Tom

I love a murdered-out car, and it truly does give a badazz sinister look.

Part of being sinister, however, is having all the loose ends tied together. If Batman's suit had rip in it, or an ear flopped over, nobody would take him nearly as seriously.

Having a black car as a daily is a full-time job to keep clean. Having an ALL-BLACK car as a daily is a requirement for you to make fast friends with a bottle of detail spray, or else.

Black cars are like white leather shoes; they look superb until you use them.

As others have noted, now that the entire car is gloss black, you can never skimp on the tire dressing. Never. With undressed tires, the car DOES appear taller because your eyes are literally drawn to the tire/wheel well area, if for no other reason than that area being the only contrast in texture/color on the whole car.

I like the calipers, as they're definitely different. Extra turquoise accents on the car would tie it together, but remember that less is certainly more in that case. Carbon fiber strakes and other accents would serve you well also.

Drop the car, keep it IMMACULATE (esp the wheels/fenderwells), and enjoy the fact that you're not blending in. Keep driving it and loving it!

Thanks alot guys. Before the car gets out for the spring/summer, it will be getting a full cleaning/waxing/dressing. Defiantly the worst part of having a black car.

rcompart: Yeah well have to meet up sometime. IF you want, im a member of wisrts.com (used to own a modded SRT-4), we are open to all mopars though. If ya want to join, we are always planning meets and have our annual big one planned for June 4th. Ive been told to recruit more x-fire guys.

Kim: Actually, San Jose Sharks fan. Ive been a big fan of black/turquoise combo since i was young.

Still snow on the ground up here, cant wait for it to leave. Ill be posting pics in this thread as i do any tweaks to the appearence.

Looks very nice lol.

My sidemarkers are actually tinted...i just didnt lay it on too thick. The sunlight on them makes them look untinted. Been thinking about popping them back out and putting a few more coats on them.
