Unhappy crashed, don't know what to do next

This fall i was in an accident and rear ended someone at about 20mph. Unfortunately the car i hit had a metal bike rack sticking out about 3 feet from the car and put 4 2" metal bars into the front end of my 04 crossfire. The car has been stored inside a garage since then while i have been trying to decide what to do with it this spring. There doesnt look to be frame damage but ill need at least a hood, fender, bumper, 1 headlight assembely, supports, grile, and intake. The radiator looks fine and didnt touch the motor in any way. Another downside is the car as 150,xxx miles.

I am wondering what you guys think would be the smartest idea. Sell the car and take the hit or try to fix it and sell it later in the spring? Open for any ideas, thanks.

Hmmmm ..... 150K is definitely a downside ..... if car was insured, they may just total it .... needs to be looked at by qualified person ..... don't know if it matters if its a coupe or roadster, whether to try to save it or not, but with 150K, it is a dilemma. The problem, as you probably know, is finding the parts at reasonable cost. Can you spell "bone yard". If not insured, you might be able to break it up for the parts. Heaven only knows we need the parts. Sorry for your shituation. Good Luck ....

Judging by most posts in this forum, might as well total it since you won't be able to find those body parts. 150k miles is also pretty significant too.

What do you honestly think the repair costs are going to be vs. what you're gonna be able to sell it for? I think that's a pretty obvious answer right there.

OK, you can drive it without a grill and make/buy a cheep cai. caould the hood be hammered out and holes welded? not sure what supports are broken but threre are really good epoxies like "quick set 50" that can repair ANYTHING Plastic! If the headlight is out just brouwse the forum for one; lots of Not-so-good ones around.

Everyone is whilling to help on the forum, thats why it rocks. Your XF may look ugly but you can save by not replacing and painting alot until you have more time and funds

just my option

PM me if I can help you,

Yeah im thinking part out might be the smartest thing to do. Im going to have someone come look at it and give me a better idea of what i would need to replace.

Ill try to get pictures up today if i can.

I'm kinda in agreement here.

If the car is mechanically sound and runs okay, for the short term why not try and get it to an acceptable appearance without breaking the bank.

This might allow you to continue to utilize, while taking your time and figuring out the cost benefit of getting it back to its original state.

I know it's not easy driving around with a banged up car, but it might be better than the alternative...

I wouldn't fix it to sell it. You will just lose more money. Sell it as is to someone like Rudy for a fair "totalled" price, or do the repairs and drive it for a few more years. Good luck with it either way.

I don't know.

Personally, if it were my car, I would just go to Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, and find as many good shaped parts for as cheap as possible, and piece it back together. Then spend the real money to have the car repainted professionally to make everything look the same again.

My quick check brings a very rough estimate to around $1500 for the parts I could find.

I think that Crossfire is worth about $5k, honestly, so it would be worth it to me to rebuild it and keep it running for my own use. With 150k on it already, I doubt its going to be resold anytime soon.

BC.

with 150.000 miles on it , there are two people that want that car to be back on the road,, Rudy and you,, if you fix it and then something else goes wrong ,from the impact of the accident,( like tranny not working, or leaking) then you really loose did you know that car max will not sell a car that has been in an accident,,,, any way again if you sell it as is to rudy,as is (if the price is right and he buys it), say around $4000.00 ,,,add that same amount to that and buy another 04 , remove your mods if any, put them on the new car ,example here is one for 8.000,,, then you are back on the road again
2004 chrysler crossfire
Oh, there are junk yards that would buy it from you also but i don't know what they would pay. ,,am I pulling for rudy to get this car,, yes i want to see another V8 crossfire,, Can you post the damage and include the upper and lower supports. what ever you do with your car good luck,, and if there is any thing i can do to help just pm me jim

I agree that the only two people who want this car back on the road is you and Rudy. For you this doesn't seem like a wise investment. The best way to give tihs car a new life would be as a race car.

BTW, 150,000 miles is impressive. How was it running? How was its realiability at 150K?

my point jim was a low mileage s/c auto brought less than 3000 on buyback. a high mileage n/a chrysler would bring even less
to my knowledge while rudy is looking for a car to turn into a monster i dont think he is looking for a wreck but rather a high mileage clean car to convert

A 150,000 mile crossfire BEFORE the accident won't bring $5,000. I watched several high-mileage XF's all last fall with 100,000 to 165,000 and I am sure you can't get $5,000 for one.

Add accident damage and I'd put the value down NO LESS than $2,000. If Rudy offered $4,000 you better smile and take it before he comes to his senses.

Either fix it for yourself or sell it (to Rudy) - but if you think you are gonna fix THAT car and get your money out of the repairs, sorry... not gonna happen. There are nice Roadsters on here (like mine) that simply won't sell - even with 35,000 miles!

I agree but you really NO MORE than $2000.....i'd even think less as 150k miles has some tired well worn parts that most would not even be interested in.
